Product Description

Product Description

Teenage dolls with fashionable clothes, boyfriends, dream homes and exciting accessories were introduced in the late 1950s as toy manufacturers rushed to match the aspirations of the post-war 'baby-boom' generation. From the earliest 'Roddy' dolls of DG Todd to the ever popular Sindy, Frances Baird gives a fascinating account of the development of these dolls. Creations from Palitoy, Pedigree and Denys Fisher, as well as lesser known brands such as Rosebud, are described and illustrated in detail making this book a delight for any collector. Frances Baird is an expert on post-war dolls, having been a collector for over forty years. She has written several books including Action Man and Hard Plastic Dolls 1940-1950 for New Cavendish Books and contributes regularly to many doll magazines.

About the Author

Frances Baird was born in South East London towards the end of the war years. Her Fascination with dolls began with the gift of a 'hard plastic doll' at the age of four. This doll was the beginning of a hobby that has lasted for more than forty years. She is now an expert on post-war dolls and edits The British Doll Collectors' Club & News, for all collectors of british made post war dolls as well as regularly writing for other doll magazines. Married with two teenage sons, she lives in Kent.

Happy memories 25 Jan 2005
By avid british reader VINE™ VOICE
If you are a Pippa or Sindy fan, you will be delighted by this little gem-(the title is slightly off -putting and does the entire book no justice,) as there is much more inside, and easy to read and learn which helps you to then date your collection .Highly recommended

British Teenage Dolls 19 July 2005
Excellent value for money. This book is great if you are a Sindy, Daisy or Pippa collector.
Photos of naked and clothed dolls. So you can see the difference in body shapes.
As a Sindy & family collector I found this book really informative.

An ok book but not what it appeared to be. There was one chapter (not very much!) on teenage dolls such as Roddy, Pedigree, Rosebud. A few photos but nowhere near enough information. Don't think the author is an expert on these dolls! The book was mainly about Sindy!! NOT recommended if you are not particulary interested in Sindy.
