4.0 out of 5 stars Basically the same as Collect British Stamps, but with more realistic prices, 24 Oct 2008
This is a very useful guide which gives you up to date MARKET prices, not SG's over inflated prices. So in that respect, a very good purchase. The only downside I've found so far is the lack of pictures of the issues so it's unless you knew the stamp it was refering to, you might have to refer to Collect British Stamps. On the whole though, very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars stamp-tastic!, 7 Mar 2009
By Belinda L (London, England) - See all my reviews
I am now collecting British stamps as a sideline investment. I know very little about stamps however this book is fantastic! It starts with an A - Z of philatelic (stamp) terms, explaining in plain english things such as 'cylinder block' or what 'smilers' are or what 'gutter stamps' are. It then has a guide to watermarks, and then goes on to list all stamps ever produced up until November 2008. Marking each reign clearly on the edge of the page with a coloured bar.

There is a picture of at least one stamp from every issue, so it does have colour pictures all through it. So for instance for Christmas 2003 (issued November 4) the title of the stamps was 'Ice Sculptures' it has a picture of the 2nd class stamp 'spiral', then names the other 5 and their postal value.

Then it tells you a bit about them, who designed them, about the printing and phosphor bands etc, then lists the market values for a full set, (not each stamp) new and used, a First day cover, the booklets, and stamp cards. Then adds any notes such as these were also issued as smilers sheets. At the back of the book presentation packs are all listed in one section in date order, with their values.

It also has sections on machins (which are stamps that just have the Queen's head on them) , official stamps, postage dues, regional issues, country issues, booklets, smilers, year books, prestige and greetings books.

I really like this book because, it reflects true market values, that is to say what you would expect to pay or sell, these for stamps on say, ebay, it's easy to use, the sections are very useful for quick reference, and has a nice clear layout and type.
