A useful health resource, but needs a revamp, 4 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Not being one to shy away from a spot of self-diagnosis when something a bit horrible starts happening to my body, I purchased this in the hopes that I'd be able to avoid a few uneccessary trips to the doctor's surgery or know when to swallow my embarrassment and seek urgent attention for those blush-inducing ailments. On the occasions I did use this, I found the self-diagnosis section easy to use though a bit lacking in depth, while the format for the rest of the content was all-too reliant on big lumps of text on a white background (a lot like one of those book thingies!). I also found it lacking in sophistication and a bit clunky when it came to searches and navigation (lots of backtracking through menus). Still, there are some nice little movies for common diagnostic procedures (colonoscopy, angiography etc) so you know what to expect when you visit the hospital, and some useful voiced animations to help explain certain ailments and procedures. It's just a shame that there aren't more of them. That said, this is a very handy resource for any household, and has certainly put my mind at rest on a few health issues over the last few years. So, a useful bit of software to have around, but the presentation, useablility and depth of content could do with sprucing up. (N.B This is not really detailed enough for medical/healthcare science students).
