Product Description

Product Description

This book takes a highly visual look at British lorries produced during the 1960s. It contains 120 colour and black and white images, many contemporary. The content includes publicity material as well as that depicting the heritage scene. Both the familiar and less familiar names connected with the road haulage industry are evident, and in addition the comprehensive text reveals much about those vehicles that were everyday names.

British commercial manufacturers played a prime role in boosting Britain's economy during the 1960s, especially as many vehicles were exported worldwide. British lorries were, therefore, considered as being the workhorses of the world, performing a wide range of duties from heavy haulage to general goods delivery.

This highly visual study of British lorries of the 1960s captures in 120 illustrations this often understated but very necessary work, which was undertaken day and night, 365 days a year. The images, many contemporary colour and black and white, include some delightful publicity items in addition to covering the heritage and preservation scenes. The comprehensive text reveals much about the marques that were everyday names, along with information about Britain's road haulage and commercial vehicle industries.

Great..truck on.. 24 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
I bought this as a follow on to the 'British Lorries of the 1950's' and wasn't in the least bit dissapointed. All my previous comments apply to this book too. Great photo's both vintage and of newly restored vehicles plus the usual (and most welcome) smattering of pictures from the manufacturers brochures at the time. Veloce Books are great and I am always looking to see what other titles they have that are likely to interest me as they are so well produced. For the truck enthusiast and/or historian this one is essential.

Very good pictures of the trucks - sorry lorries - of my youth. Sadly I think I look older than they do! Good balance of pictures and narrative. Small ideal gift - not an exhaustive tome.
