I have to confess an interest in purchasing this obscure disc. Michael Gryspeerdt is my wife's uncle and gave the speech at our wedding. He was a gifted amateur composer (in the true and original sense; that is, someone who "loves" what he does) and "The Lamprey" was the first piece that I ever heard by him. This was on a cassette tape of poor quality, but played with gusto by the dedicatees. (The Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra, where Michael played the horn).

It has been an absolute delight to hear this music given such a sparkling and musical performance by Gavin Sutherland and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Here, Michael has his place alongside the famous and the obscure (how he would have loved it) in universally enjoyable pieces that are, without exception, played splendidly. You would be amazed what hidden treasures there are waiting to be discovered. Buy it!
Mr Sutherland, please can I have more:
"Doctor Foster", "Goodbye to all That" etc etc!

I bought this purely to get a copy of the truly wonderful Farnham Festival Overture by Richard Rodney Bennett (note the signature is remakably similar to the Theme to Radio Four's File on 4 programme, which RRB also penned). For me this is probably the stand out piece on the CD but there are no duds here, it's all absolute quality of it's genre and era and a refreshing change from the same light classics that get rehashed over and over on light music compilations.

If you appreciate the music of this type and era you will not be disappointed.

Excellent British music 26 Feb. 2013
By Edward Matthews - Published on Amazon.com
If you are lucky enough to locate a copy of this music, grab it as the record company is no more and there were only a limited amount of CD's released. The music is typically British and "The Farnham Festival Overture" by Richard Rodney Bennett is really delightful. Happy hunting. I had to search hard and located my copy in the USA.
