I agree completely with the review by Mabeline. I used this book to teach history GCSE at evening classes, very successfully, nearly ten years ago. After a break I am starting to teach the course again from September and needed to know if this book was still in print. I haven't seen any other books that cover the subject in such a clear and interesting way. My previous students were full of enthusiasm - with comments such as: "History was never like this when we were at school".

I first read this book at College, approx. six years ago. I just dusted it from my loft and was browsing through it. I think this book is excellent. It is very informative and unlike several other history books, it doesn't assume extensive prior knowledge. I like the idea of the illustrations and the use of first hand sources. The author obviously worked hard on this book and should be recognised.
