The Safefix Plus from Britax is a forward-facing Group 1 car seat that offers a secure and comfortable car journey for your toddler. Suitable for toddlers weighing between 9 and 18 kg (approximately 9 months and 4 years old), the Safefix Plus is ideal to use with cars featuring Isofix fittings.
Isofix is an internationally recognised way of fixing a child seat to a vehicle without using a seatbelt. As of February 2011, it is required by law that the system be integrated into a minimum number of seats in all new cars.
Isofix anchorage points are installed in the vehicle with matching connectors on the child safety seats, which allows Isofix seats to be securely, correctly, and permanently attached to the vehicle body. Its simple installation minimises the risk of the car seat being installed incorrectly.
The patented Pivot Link system was developed by Britax and is used in all Isofix Group 1 seats, including the Safefix Plus. In the event of an accident, the system reduces much of the forward rotation of the seat, which channels a large part of the energy downwards into the car seat. This means that, in the first phase of a collision, the movement of the child that is directed forward is markedly absorbed and reduced by means of the seat being initially pressed into the car seat.
In the second phase, the forward movement of the child safety seat is slowed down. Overall, this causes the pivot link to reduce the strain placed on the child's body, and in particular the cervical spine. This reduces the risk of head injury through, for example, collision with the front seat.
One out of four car accidents is a side collision, and side collisions account for 20% of child fatalities, so it is vital to provide side impact protection for your child.
The Safefix Plus has deep, softly padded side wings, which ensure your child is protected in the event of a side collision and provide extra comfort and support on every journey.
Britax advocates children remaining in a properly positioned five-point harness for as long as possible. The Safefix Plus has a harness with five attachment points – two at the shoulder, two at the hips, and one between the legs – ensuring your child remains securely in the seat. The harness can be adjusted with one pull.
The best way to install the Safefix Plus is with Isofix, but it can also be installed using your vehicle's three-point seatbelt if you have an older car without an Isofix system.
The Safefix Plus is available in a choice of five covers. Covers are removable and machine-washable, making them easy to clean. Spare covers are available separately for the Safefix Plus, which you can use when the original is being washed or just to give the seat a new look. For car journeys in hotter weather, you may also want a Summer Cover or a Keep Cool Cover.
Single group seats have the optimum shape designed for the weight of the child and offer additional comfort and practicality. Group 1 car seats have comfortable recline systems that are easy to adjust while the child is in the seat and the seat is fitted to the car.
Group 1 car seats are suitable for children weighing between 9 and 18 kg (approximately 9 months to 4 years old). You should move from a Group 0+ to a Group 1 seat when your child exceeds the weight limit and can sit up unaided with confidence, or if their head is higher than the top of the seat.
