Product Description

Britax Kidfix car seat offers a safe and comfortable seat for the older child

The Kidfix car seat is Britax’s test winner in the Group 2-3 category, offering the best in all round comfort and protection.

Britax Kidfix car seat is ideal for:
  • Children weighing between 15 and 36kg
  • Cars with ISOFIX fittings
  • Moving between different vehicles

Isofix
Fitting the car seat with ISOFIT minimises mistakes in installation.
Belt guides
Belt guides ensure the seat belt goes across your child in the right place.

Key safety features of the Britax Kidfix

ISOFIT makes fitting simple, but secure

ISOFIX is an international recognised way of fixing a child seat to a vehicle without using a seat belt. It was developed by Britax in association with VW in 1997 and as of February 2011, it is required by law that the system be integrated into a minimum number of seats in all new cars. ISOFIX anchorage points are installed in the vehicle with matching connectors on the child safety seats, minimising the risk of the car seat being installed incorrectly.

The ISOFIT system is specific to Group 2-3 child car seats and uses the ISOFIX safety system for fixing the seat in the car. In the event of an accident, the ISOFIT system allows the seat to move slightly forwards with the child, keeping the seat belt in the correct position and controlling the energy levels more efficiently. The direct connection to the car chassis prevents side movement of the seat and improves protection from a side collision.

Side impact protection
Deep padded side wings absorb the energy from side collision and provide extra comfort for your child.
Optimum Side Impact Protection

One out of four car accidents is a side collision and side collisions account for 20% of child fatalities, so it is vital to provide side protection for your child. The Kidfix has deep, softly padded side wings which ensure your child is protected in the event of a side collision by absorbing the crash energy, reducing the impact on your child. During sleep and rest, they support your child from the sides and help to keep your child in the correct position.

Seat-belt guides

The Kidfix car seat does not have an integral harness; your child secured using the car’s three-point seat belt. Children can be injured if the seat belt is not correctly positioned across their body, so the Kidfix has seat belt guides to correctly position the seat belt over your child’s shoulder and pelvis, away from the vulnerable neck and stomach areas.

Complete list of features for the Kidfix

This list of all the safety and comfort features should help you decide if the Kidfix is the right car for your child and your requirements.

Why buy a Group 2-3 car seat?

A Group 2-3 car seat is designed for children weighing between 15 and 35kg (approximately 4 to 12 years old, but it is the weight that decides which seat you need).

Since April 2008, the Highway Code has specified that each child who is less than 1.35 meters or younger than 12 must be secured in an appropriate child restraint system which has been successfully tested according to ECE 44/03 or 44/04 standards. A child car seat gives the child a higher sitting position, ensuring the adult seat belt can be positioned correctly across their body.

Is a booster cushion not enough?

Booster cushions are better than nothing, but they offer no side impact protection, which is vital as side collisions account for 20% of fatalities. Britax has stopped selling its booster cushions and are instead recommending highbacked car seats. The Kidfix offers this essential side impact protection for your older child with optimal head protection and body containment. This seat exceeds the current safety requirements.

When should you move your child up to using a Group 2-3 car?

For safety reasons, you should keep your child in each stage for as long as possible -– until they reach the weight limit or their head reaches the top of the seat. Move from a Group 1 seat when the upper edge of the shell is roughly at eye level of the child or your child exceeds the weight limit. Do not move too early to a Group 2-3 because these seats are wider to accommodate larger children. Also a younger child's shoulders are too narrow to hold to the safety belt securely. A small child can therefore easily slip out from under the belt, especially when they fall asleep during the journey.

Fabric choices to suit all tastes

The Kidfix is fitted with softly padded covers, designed for comfort, practicality and style. The 2011 Kidfix is available in a choice of six Trend Line or two High Line covers. Part of the Trend Line range, the vibrant pink Elena cover is made from soft-touch fabric for extra comfort. The cover is easy to clean, being removable and machine washable.

Spare covers are available separately for the Kidfix, which you can use when the original is being washed or just to give the seat a new look. For car journeys in hotter weather, you may also want a Summer Cover or a Keep Cool Cover.

Car seat safety essentials

  • Never buy a second hand car seat--you cannot know its full history and it may have been weakened or damaged in a previous incident or have parts missing.
  • Buy the right car seat for your child's weight--age ranges are just a guideline.
  • Move your child up to the next car seat group when they outgrow their current seat, but don’t be in a rush to do this too soon.
  • Install the seat according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Always use the car seat, even on very short journeys.

Amazing Amazon 23 Oct 2011
By Lola
I've never written a review before but recent events have prompted me to leave comments. I originally purchased this seat with the SICT panels on the side. I had checked the Britax fit finder and it was approved for the new car I was intending to buy, a VW TOURAN. There was a delay that meant I didn't not receive the car until over a month after I received the Britax Kid Fix SICT seat. However, on fitting , every time I closed the car door it banged into the SICT panel on the seat as it is very wide when fitted. The SICT panel remained touching the seat when the door was closed. Despite the seat manual advising the seat must not touch the door Britax advised me this was o.k . It was not o.k for me or my daughter ! It did not feel safe! Amazon were amazing, within 10 Minutes of me e mailing them to let them know the problem they had authorised a return free of charge and the next day the courier picked it up. I ordered the exact same seat for Amazon but without the SICT panels , it took two days only to arrive and we are very happy with it. Brilliant seat and brilliant service . If you are thinking of ordering it with SICT be aware it may not fit, the TOURAN is a seven seated so It is pretty huge !

The car seat is great. The only problem is that it seemed red but is more on the pink side. This is meant for a boy so it was a turn-off. Besides that the car seat is great.

Childs car seat 20 April 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
A step up from the initial baby car seat, which will last until the child is 12 years old. Safer and more comfortable than a booster cushion. Peace of mind for parents and the child feels more secure. Packed well and delivered promptly.
