Product Description

Peter Kay sends up the phenomenally popular genre of TV talent shows in this Channel 4 spoof, subtitled 'Britain's Got The Pop Factor...and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice'. It's the final to end all finals and it's down to the final three: R Wayne, 2 Up 2 Down and part-time dinner lady Geraldine McQueen (Kay). Which of these fabulous acts - each with their own heartrending backstory - will be crowned winner?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air 20 Dec 2009
At a time when there are so many ridiculous things being shown on TV, a time when we get nearer and nearer to Richard Bachman's 'The Long Walk'- and 'The Running Man'-type pseudo-reality TV shows that know no bounds; shows in which people are encouraged to trade what little dignity they once had for a pay cheque and 15 minutes of painfully acquired fame, Peter Kay takes this horror and masterfully pokes a finger at the entire genre managing to create a beautifully absurd satire.
Funny, painful and spot on! Hope you enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Right up there with Spinal Tap 22 Oct 2009
Possibly one of the best parodies of modern culture out there. The effort put into making this believable, funny and entertaining at the same time is astonishing.

Worth the money alone for Cat Deeley's method of shutting the audience up !

You get longer versions of some of the songs in the extras, and Where is the Love and Tamperer's Feel It are funnier in their extended versions.

Hopefully Peter will move into this type of one-off, Stanley Baxter type special more often in future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will cheer you up no end 27 Oct 2009
I have watched this many times. It is such clever spoof. The attention to detail is amazing. I am a massive TV and film fan and I can honestly say this is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Well done PK. A really good pick me up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Comedy Genius 10 Oct 2009
I watched all of the content on this DVD when it was on TV.

I think a lot of people missed out at the time as it is purely brilliant!

Watch this then an episode of X Factor and you really wouldn't notice the difference - the production of it is excellent.

And of course Peter Kay plays a truly hilarious role as Geraldine McQueen! The way X Factor and all the others were spoofed in this were great!

Its the best laugh I have had for a while!

3.0 out of 5 stars fun pop dvd x 11 Sep 2014

purchased recently, arrived today I thought this was a fun DVD , I mean really when you watch a DVD like this and yet there are so many of these pop star competitions aren't there ? so you see its difficult to choose who is the best of the best ...
I wouldn't like to judge who is the best pop act ... to me your all winners !
Geraldine your lovely , but R Wayne- now he really can sing! you cant believe where that big voice comes from like move over R Kelly LOL a lovely jolly music fest one to have a bit of a bop along to !
I wander if anyone else noticed like I happened to, that Geraldine looks astoundingly like that famous comedian you know the one Garlic Bread .. cheese cake a cake of cheese ,,he's friends with Gary Barlow .. that's it Peter Kay !
anyway fun and musical like all these Saturday night pop star competitions all rolled into one ... fun ,, worth a watch anyway x

5.0 out of 5 stars Now this is real entertainment! 17 Jan 2013
By ChrisP
Peter Kay has struck gold with this spoof of the reality TV shows. It takes the Micky out of every element of the shows from auditions, the soppy back-stories and even the song choices, and getting the original Pop Idol judges topped it off brilliantly!
A must see - whether you love or hate the X Factor!
Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Kay for Boothroyd Memorial Chair? 9 Jan 2013

If you are a sucker for a parody nailed down with painstaking observation and panache, and this one is way overdue, then you will share my delight in Peter Kay's merciless reflection of what passes for compassion in the moral maze which is popular culture.
If it doesnt get your vote, martians have probably already feasted on your soul.

Peter Kay manages to encapsulate everything that is tacky and noxious about reality TV at its worse. Prepare to laugh a lot.
