Book Description

7 May 2009 Walk
Could you name Britain's 50 best viewpoints? A great view is something you savour for the rest of your life, especially if you've walked for it. No-one knows this better than the Ramblers Association, which leads over 20,000 walks each year across the country. Drawing on its matchless knowledge of Britain's footpath network, the RA has cherrypicked 50 of Britain's top vistas, and devised walking routes that do them justice. The views cover the full cross-section of British landscapes - from remote shell-sand beaches in the Highlands to London's big city skyline. The one thing the they all have in common in that the spots you need to see them from can only be reached on foot. Discover Britain's 50 finest viewpoints, via 50 superb walks. Explore our island's benchmark landscapes with the help of full-colour maps and foolproof route descriptions, all road-tested by RA members. Read expert background on the terrain, its monuments and cultural associations, backed up by 100 specially commissioned photographs. Depend on first-hand reviews of places stay, eat and drink for each route, and tips on how to reach its start by public transport. Be inspired to go where no car can.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Inspirational Guide 1 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent book that describes 50 walks all over the UK.
The walks are described in very good detail and most people should be able to follow the walk. Each walk contains a lot of information about local interest, places to stay/eat, visitor information and public transport. The walks are also rated in a simple system for length and difficulty that makes it easy to judge for yourself.
At the beginning of the book is a useful map with markers for each walk, making it easy to see if there is a walk in your area/or your holiday area.
Every walk is also accompanied with a detailed OS Map extract.
All in all a very useful book for your next walk.

3.0 out of 5 stars good range of walks 20 Feb 2010
By Bill Crawford VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
A load of walks from across the country all featuring fantastic views - probably best if you do a lot of UK-wide travelling, as they are not very clustered. I am local to Northumberland, and there are not many to chhose from in this area - still a good book, that I hope to make use of.
