This book has been published to compliment the television series and whereas after a while I became bored with the television series, the book is extremely eye-catching and informative. This is due to the stunning photographs contained within the book, the one on page thirty three being a case in point. A night photograph of the illuminated Pepsi max Big One Roller Coaster and from the same group featuring Blackpool an illuminated ferris wheel against a night time sky.
The concept of the programme was good, sixteen celebrities promoting what, for them is their favourite view in Britain. In practice I felt that it turned out to be celebrities promoting celebrities. Whether the views in general, chosen by the said celebrities are the best is Britain is debatable as many of them will have been put forward for personal reasons and the individuals own memories and love of a place or object. Of course this does not necessarily rub off onto other people so to speak and anyway beauty is in the eye of the beholder
What can be said is that whatever the view or object photographed in the book the photographer's have done an excellent job in trying to capture the mood of a particular place. Night scenes, sunsets, storm clouds, and interesting use of monochrome. in fact all the tricks of the trade are used to enhance the quality of the photographs. For me personally some of the man made structures included in the book surpass even the beauties of nature. The text is concise and to the point, no more and no less than is needed to give a brief history of a particular place or object and do justice to the photograph. All in all a book that goes a long way towards promoting the beauty of the country we live in. Whether they are the best views in Britain is debatable but they are certainly up there with the best.
