5.0 out of 5 stars Talent in the extreme, 7 Mar 2008
I have seen an advanced copy of Ptolemy's brilliant book. What an Artist, his talent and expertise are beyond doubt. I would recommend that it is an essential part of anyone's library. His illustrations are perfection !

5.0 out of 5 stars Drawing Places and Spaces, 7 Sep 2008
By Richard Bell "wildlife illustrator" (West Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As you'd expect from publishers DK, this is a lavish production but, in contrast to their signature all-seeing, all-knowing house style, I'm delighted that it's very much a view through one pair of eyes. Ptolemy Dean's drawings aren't as acerbically witty as Paul Hogarth's Drawing on Life: The Autobiography of Paul Hogarth, as robustly vernacular as Matthew Rice Village Buildings of Britain Handbook or as flamboyantly urbane as David Gentleman's David Gentleman's London (Phoenix Illustrated) but if you like their work, I think you'll appreciate his gentle, intelligent, eye-opening tour of Britain's Buildings.

I like his consistently wobbly line which takes the scary technical side out of architectural drawing and his understated, atmospheric use of watercolour. His book makes me want to get out there exploring, enjoying and drawing buildings and the human-scale spaces - successfully evoked here on the 2-dimensional page - that they can create around them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Britains Buildings, 6 April 2009

Ptolomy Dean's book 'Britains Buildings' is a joy of perfect if not almost humorous Paintings.
As a new student of pen and wash I can't stop looking at his intricate drawings with great pleasure.
