Product Description

Product Description

Adrian Warren and Dae Sasitorn take us on an aerial journey through time, using over 400 of their stunning photographs, with an informative text by Elizabeth Loving and David Halford, to interpret our impact on the landscape and revealing its hidden secrets.500 million years ago, Britain lay under the sea close to the Antarctic. As it was pushed northwards, volcanoes and earthquakes opened up the earth's crust; and glaciers scoured the surface of the land. When people first ventured into wilderness Britain over half a million years ago to hunt and find shelter, they discovered a rich variety of landscapes. Little by little, they learned to exploit its natural resources, cutting the forest, ploughing the land, building roads, homes, cities, and creating wealth that attracted waves of invaders, who shaped the modern Britain we know today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, yet informative book, 19 Dec 2007
By P. Puntan (Winchester, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book for a colleague of mine who was returning to the Far East after a period in Britain. Not only is the photograhy stunning the book is informative detailing the history of Britain from the creation of the land masses through to 2007. It oulines the growth of the "British" people through their dwellings and the change from agricultural feudal system through to squires and then into industrialisation and the modern age all with appropriate photos. What's most pleasing is whilst the usual standards are on show the book wasn't cliched in its selection of photographs and I was constantly refering to the maps at the back to find out where the selected points of interest were located. It's also not the usual huge A3 coffee book size so you can sit and flick through the 400+ pages without breaking your wrist.
