Product Description

Review

Brilliantly organised guide ... beautiful, apparently infallible, so comprehensive and above all easy to use. The Sunday Times Superbly handy and comprehensive guide. The Observer

Product Description

Every one of the 887 species of birds found in Britain and Europe is described and illustrated - including all rarities and introduced species. The book provides the information needed to identify every species - whatever its age or sex - and special pages highlight groups of birds that are difficult to identify.

3.0 out of 5 stars Warning- not all of the Middle East included, 23 May 2003
By Marie Schatz (Battle Creek, MI USA) - See all my reviews
I bought this book exclusively for Middle East coverage and am very disappointed. None of the pre-buy book descriptions define the coverage of "Middle East". So after struggling with shipping problems I find that where I am in the Middle East isn't even covered.
The intro says it covers south to the 27oN latitude - which is probably less than the top quarter of Saudia Arabia. So everyone in Saudia Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, UAE is out of luck. It says coverage also includes to the 52oE in Iran, east to the Caspian Sea. However in skimming the small light colored maps on each page it doesn't even look like that much of SA is displayed.
The little maps are poor help for areas that are displayed. Other books have done a better job even with small maps. There are no companion larger maps in the back.

4.0 out of 5 stars An average guide, 21 Aug 2009
A Kid's Review
I'm a Turkish boy, ý have got this book but its Turkish version named not Birds of Britain and Europe, Turkey and Europe. I think this book is most average guide in all of britain and europe bird books. There are 2 problems for me: First, illustrations are not very good, ýf you think illustrations are very important, don't buy this guide, second problem is text is not so good.

By Mr. Dg Wood (devon) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Collins Complete Guide to British Birds: A Photographic guide to Every Common SpeciesAn excellent and detailed book, far superior to the average pocket guide which seem to omit so many species found in mainland Europe
