2.0 out of 5 stars So you live in a hard water area?? Read this first, 22 Jan 2005
By David Davies (Hampshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Brita sells its ketle as avoiding all the scale and scum because it filters all the impurities including the calcium out. What they don't tell you until youv'e bought the kettle and read the small print is that in very hard water areas you will get scale very quickly. I have had to change the filter and descale every fortnight or less!! Be warned you will not get scale and fir free water for very long unless you live in a soft water area - and then why would you want a filter kettle anyway? Sorry Brita - suggest you improve the quality of your filters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Theory - but has drawbacks, 26 Mar 2005
By A Customer
I have never used a water filter before, and was amazed at the difference filtered water made to tea & coffee - no scum and a much cleaner purer taste. The combination of a water filter and kettle is good in theory but.....
The kettle is heavy and tall - I can't fit it under my tap if I happen to have washing up in the sink - but I get around this by using a separate jug to fill it.
It can get irritating having to wait for the water to filter down before you can begin to boil it, but I get around this by always re-filling it immediately after each use.
I have a family of four and find that I have to replace the cartridge every 2-3 weeks which gets expensive.
But most annoying of all - the plastic 'funnel' that the cartridge sits in is very brittle and flimsy, and first one part broke (but was still usable) but now the whole thing has snapped off making it impossible to use the cartridge.
Therefore if you want to pay £60 for 18 months use - go ahead and buy this, otherwise I recommend buying a separate water filter and kettle.
Not using filtered water is no longer an option once you have tried it !!

2.0 out of 5 stars many hidden faults..., 22 Sep 2006
By TDB "Tee" (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
The main thing I find impractical about this filter kettle is the fact that when you fill it, it takes forever to filter the water first, then boil it. It gathers up scale so fast, you need to spend fortunes on new filters, plus it never looks clean. Finally it starts dribbling after a month's use. I hope this is helpful xx

1.0 out of 5 stars Really bad product
This kettle is extremely badly designed as the water leaks down the side everytime. It doesn't help when Brita offer very bad customer care!

Great tasting water and convenient to have a filter system built in to a kettle. However, this Britta model is very badly designed. Read more
