3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but...... 13 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
I'm not sure about this book. It is as if every snippet of gossip has been included, which makes for very lumpy reading with a narrative which is sometimes hard to follow.
The pictures - very good in their own right - are rarely tied to the text, and in some cases seem to occur at random.
The technical side is simply inadequate by comparison with either the Brooklands re-print or Setright's books.

And there's the rub - how can you write a book about Bristol Cars and not mention (except once in passing) LJK Setright? He wrote endlessly about Bristols Cars in various magazines, was for a time president of the Bristol Owners Club, and produced 2 books on the subject.

I have a copy of LJKS' "Bristol Cars & Engines" from 1974.
Does it cost more than twice what this one does (even before Amazon discount!)? Yes
Has it less than half the pages? Yes
Is it more than 4 times as good as this book? Yes

This book is OK, but not great

5.0 out of 5 stars Bristol Cars: A very British story 25 May 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is a detailed look at what went before Bristol Cars was formed, its formation and its subsequent history. Packed full of interesting historical notes, a lot never before un-earthed. Yes there are other, previous, publications that cover the technical detail of the cars in greater depth, but no other publication has grasped the full breadth of the machinations that went on in the Bristol Airplane company, and that subsequently gave rise to the foundation of Bristol Cars.
The depth of detail on the model variations is also unsurpassed.
Put simply, in time, this book will become the accepted text book on the history of Bristol Cars.
