As someone who hankers after a healthy diet rather than one who rigorously pursues one, I have found this book to be a revelation. Wholesome food can be tasty and not bland. The recipes are clear and simple to follow even for a relative stranger to the kitchen like me. All I have to do now is to convince my sceptical children that (1)their father is not deranged and (2)that this food is edible without lashings of tomato ketchup! Time will tell.....

Currently in remission from cancer, I decided I would do all I could to avoid it returning again. Although I previously had a relatively healthy diet, I was not a vegan, and so very reluctantly, I bought this book.
The first thing I noticed, was that unlike many other vegan cookery books, I was familiar with most of the ingredient listings. The few ingredients that I was not familiar with, were all available at my local supermarket and/or health food chain.
You have to be aware that vegan foods do often take a little more time and effort to prepare, but the results are definitely worth it, and of course you can always freeze ahead.
I have discovered how versatile things like tofu and soya milk are. Using these 2 ingredients, you will not notice that the cheese or cream are missing from the recipes. Even my husband (a very happy carnivore) did not notice that what was on his salad was not real mayonnaise! The recipes cover right across the spectrum, from starters and sauces, through main meals, accompanyments and desserts and cakes, and so far, I have yet to find a bad recipe. Many of the recipes are also very adaptable, and so you can ring the changes according to what's sitting in your fridge at the time. I can honestly say that I have quite surprised myself at how much I am enjoying my new healthy way of eating, and also at how little I am missing animal based foods, and the products that come from them. Although my family are still enjoying animal based products, they too are eating far more healthily than they did before.
I would recommend this book to all vegans, but particularly, new vegans.
Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

This is a real eye opener for any person who is not getting enough energy from their diet. This book explains fully how to make the most energy from the food we eat. Highly recommended. Excellent for anyone unwell or just needing a bit of help with ageing or just needing to get the spring back into their step.
