Product Description

When Sting embarked on his solo career, he didn't throw his tenure with the Police out the window; on this live double album from his Dream of the Blue Turtles tour, he reworks some odd selections from his old band's catalogue in the expansive, jazz-inflected style of his new crew (which included saxophonist Branford Marsalis). The performances on Bring on the Night emphasise showmanship (solos, backup singers, and all) and they've got lots of crowd-pleasing moments, like the overwhelming swell of "I Burn for You" and a Caribbean clap-along on a medley of "One World" and "Love Is the Seventh Wave". But Sting's raw-steak voice has been affected by his band, too, and his phrasing on the quieter torch songs draws cleverly on jazz traditions. --Douglas Wolk

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing compares to Sting 17 Feb 2001
Format:Audio CD
I always liked the Police - this is true. But then there is Sting. He plays, he sings, he writes and I must admit his mellow jazz songs often leave me weak. If you can, get the video too for the full effect. But either way, "Bring on the Night" moves you through soulful renditions and ranges of emotion from love and joy to pain and sorrow. If you don't feel your muscles ache after "We Work The Black Seam", turn it up and play it again!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning 31 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
Jazz inspired live recordings of songs mainly from Stings first solo album „The Dream Of The Blue Turtles". The musicians are in best form and very playful. Most of all I like the medleys, especially „One World (Not Three)/Love Is The Seventh Wave". The songs are not only coupled to each other, but woven in each other. Stunning! There is also a video of the same title worth seeing, about how this concert tour was made to happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars best album by far 27 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This album and the tour is by far the best work that sting has ever done, which is emphasized by the unbelievable drumming of omar hakim, some sweet bass from darryl jones, lightening fingers of the late kenny kirkland and the superb as ever branford marsalis the only let down on this album is the omission of the drum solo at the end of burn for you which is best illustrated on the video of the same name but thats me being picky...iwould highly recommend this album to anyone who wants to see a diffrent side to sting,a not as slick side.

4.0 out of 5 stars remastered = degraded 17 Jun 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a great album, but be careful which version you get.

I highly recommend buying the original "Bring on the Night" CDs (which I give 5 stars) instead of the remastered version (which is an import). You'll not only save yourself some money, but you'll be getting a higher fidelity recording.

An audiophile might be more critical of the new version than me, but I sometimes found it hard to tell the difference between the two in sound quality. But when I did detect differences, the remastered version compared unfavorably. One instrument that really decided it for me were the cymbals. They sounded much more natural on the original CDs, while the remasters sounded like the digitized version.

Like most remasters, this one plays louder than the original. But if I want louder music, I'd prefer to use the volume knob than sacrifice the quality of the recording.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 STARS IF YOU LOVE STING 3 Aug 2000
By Michael Stubbmann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Myself I love this album. Its a great driving or lounging album. You know, one of those that you let play from beginning to end. It goes back to an older era for sting. Dont expect pop like melodies and lyrics. Strong blues style(great for any live album in my opinion). Covers several police songs quite well. This album isn't for everyone though, I love sting so it works for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars are some remasters a hoax? 12 April 2005
By Mesher's Merch - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I spent a half an hour going from my original 'Bring On The Night' to the anticipated remaster, and I gotta say...hm. I think we've been had. I agree with the reviewer that said the original's high end was much cleaner, a lot of which gets muddled on the remaster. It sounds a bit canned, claustrophobic. It's louder, that's about it. Sting has always been meticulous about the sound on his discs and since 'Nothing Like The Sun' all of his recordings have been full 'ddd' digital. I even recall noting the quality difference when they were first released, when compared to other c.d.'s of that time. I give the content 5 stars (no one should be denied this amazing album), the remaster, however...Track down the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a great album, period. 11 April 2013

I always resented the fact that the content that would have fit in a single CD used to be sold as two-CD pack. It was a great opportunity to swindle buyers out of extra cash and it worked on people who remembered that it used to be two records, when it was distributed in vinyl. Now that the price is fair for digital content, I finally went for it. After a couple of listens, I almost regretted waiting so many years to buy this again in a different format: it was a very often played record that I had chosen to boycott, but here it is. I love it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good live album 6 Nov 2013

Not generally a fan of live albums, but this is great! The song selection pulls from some of his older albums, with a nice jazz vibe.
