Impressive though this might be, none of it meant very much to the grumpy Fame Academy judges ("bland and "unemotional", they said) who, herein, are proved to be partially right. Too many light, soft songs on Bring It On seem to have been written in a gooey-eyed state of lovestruck semi-consciousness. However, when Griffin gets urgent and hits upon a truly memorable tune he really has got what it takes to make a pop career beyond his 15 minutes of teatime fame on the gogglebox. Two such examples are the splendidly catchy "Hungry for Love" and the heart-fluttering summer pop infatuation of "Something About Her", the latter finding Griffin putting those English literature studies to awesomely ambiguous use with his strategic use of the word "defile". Write this chap off at your peril. --Kevin Maidment
Review Surprisingly, there's only a mere smattering of covers. Trouble is, there just isn't enough meat for any self-respecting student of pop stuff to get their teeth into here. Al's album ticks along nicely enough, with jangly enthusiasm, unassuming vocals plus enough cheese to keep a whole family of mice happy 'til next Xmas.
"Bring It On", the Griffmeisters signature tune on the show, is still the standout track here with its singalong happy clappy chorus. "A Lover's Prayer", with hee bee Bee Gee Robin Gibb, is heartfelt enough, but Al's version of "Jealous Guy" is so wet it could be wrung out and used to fill Rik Waller's bath. Fame seems a wee bit far off yet, but maybe if he adopted Alex's cow-like moo that could all change.

They have obviously felt the need to include some covers from Fame Academy, which is a shame when Alistair has so many of his own songs to offer. That said, they have chosen the best three - "Everything I Own" sounds wonderful, Alistair gives a fine performance "Jealous Guy" and as for "Wherever You Will Go" I far prefer Alistairs version to the original. The weakest track for me is the "Lovers Prayer" duet with Robin Gibb, a nice enough song but lacks the impact of many of the the tracks on this album.
It's hard to choose a favorite track, as it is rare for me to like so many tracks from one album, so I'll choose three - two breathtaking balads "You and Me" and "Feeling Alive" with the rocky "Hungry For Love". Tip for the next single "In Your Smile"
People criticise singers coming from TV talet shows, but with this offering, Alistair shows a real singing/songwriting talent and has a great "real music" feel being guitar/piano/drums based and not over produced. Wonderful debut. Can't wait for more.
I cried when I listened to A Lover's Prayer with Robin Gibb which I found absolutely touching; and it took me a while to figure out which was Alistair and which was Robin singing! I love every song on the album which for me is unusual as I usually only like a third or so of favourite songs; I find Alistair's voice really soothing and lovely and easy to listen to ... .
I watched Alistair on Fame Academy on and off and thought his music was ok; though now I think his music is great having been able to familiarise myself more with it - it's just grown on me daily. I find myself hearing his songs in my head when I'm not in the car and feel drawn to switching on his music as soon as possible. It's like I'm addicted to it and I've had the album for a few weeks now and still haven't tired of it. Amazing! It's wonderful! It's very calming for me; especially to sing along and I love feeling great when I've driven to work and/or home again having listened to Alistair's album. I love his lyrics as well which are great!
I found it somewhat hard to get used to Alistair singing Jealous Guy though it grew on me; however I still prefer the original artist.
Let's hope that Alistair brings us lots more music and enjoyment and keep up the good work!! Well done Alistair!
I could write more but have run out of time!
