Product Description

Product Description

This invaluable guide to all 300 pubs and bars in Brighton uses an innovative scoring system to objectively grade each and to give an assessment of the best and worst pubs in town. Featuring an A-Z of every pub and bar, 8 suggested pub crawls, information on local breweries, beers and clubs, drinking games and a selection of pub jokes and distractions, this really is the ideal drinking companion for the visitor to or resident of this wonderful seaside city.

About the Author

Mr. H: The most senior juror in terms of number of pubs visited as well as in age, Mr. H enjoys a quality pint of bitter in a quality establishment. No plastic plants for this fellow! ... Mr. A: ... Mr. A prizes objectivity over personal favourites in his marking. He'll drink lager, bitter, stout or cocktails - basically anything in a glass. His preferred place of drinking has to have a bit of life. Mr. B: A fairly new father of one, Mr. B has had his drinking sessions curtailed by nappy changing, but in his day his preferred pub valued atmosphere and entertainment over beer. He's a lager drinking, football watching, gambling executive with a taste for a hot curry... Mr. E: An occasionally dangerous professional cider-drinker, Mr. E still feels like a student and favours the younger atmosphere for his alcohol consumption... Mr. T: Another young father, but this time of two, Mr. T is the only juror not resident in Brighton, hiding out in Plumpton and making regular forays into the big city purely for the sake of research... Miss C: Currently the only woman on the team, she has her work cut out objectively representing the views of the entire fairer sex. She is the only juror who rates Beer as low as being the 4th most important facet of a pub... Mr. M: Band member and full time artist and rocker, Mr. M knows what he wants from a pub and it is Atmosphere, Beer and Entertainment in that order...

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like pubs you'll love this book, 7 Oct 2006
By
Ed (Brighton) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brighton's Best Pubs (Paperback)
Brighton has huge numbers of pubs, of all shapes and sizes, and this book provides a highly entertaining guide through all of them. You may not agree with every comment, but they will certainly make you smile, or even laugh, before deciding that you really should be down the pub instead of sitting around at home reading books!

The people who wrote this book understand that it's the whole experience that makes a good pub. Unlike other guides they don't just focus on say trendy refitted bars full of beautiful people, or on pubs with real ale or with good food. Instead they review every pub and give it a score for each facet of the perfect pub - beer, atmosphere, music etc. Out pops a number at the end and the pubs are ranked.

These scores are all very well, but what counts are the recommendations that come from local people with a real enthusiasm for the whole business of going out drinking and having a good time. Go to the recommended pubs in here and you can't go wrong, also you'll probably end up in a few cool places you would have missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Easy to Use, 29 Aug 2006
This review is from: Brighton's Best Pubs (Paperback)
It covers every pub and bar in Brighton and is dead easy to use. The A-Z section means you only need to know the name of the pub and you can turn to it in seconds. Then you get the overall rating (%) and ratings for Beer, Atmosphere, Entertainment, Decor/Garden, Barstaff and Food, plus some comments. There are maps showing the pub locations, suggested pub crawls, a guide to clubs and other sections like jokes, games and puzzles.
