I purchased this book with some trepidation as it wasn't in my normally more affordable price range!
But am I glad I did !!! Charles Holden almost deserves sainthood in place of the knighthood he consistently refused. This book is no dry piece of academia, it is well filled with fine quality photos for the 1930's built art deco stations along the Picadilly Line & elsewhere. A thoroughly absorbing, illuminating and instructive read just made me wonder why we can't always build affordably and practically yet stylishly, why must it always seem to be a balance that affordable means boring and let's knock it down after 20years. The book makes me believe that TfL should restore them all to their as built condition, which they richly deserve. Great Book !! Great Read !!! Well Done !!!
