Book Description

A cutting-edge handbook for parents from a pioneer in infant brain development

Should you really read to your baby? Can teaching a baby sign language boost IQ? Should you pipe classical music into the nursery? Dr. Stamm translates the latest neuroscience findings into clear explanations and practical suggestions, demonstrating the importance of the simple ways you interact with your child every day. It isn’t the right “edu-tainment” that nurtures an infant’s brain. It is as simple as Attention, Bonding, and Communication, and it’s within every parent’s ability to provide. Practical games and tips for each developmental age group will show you not only what the latest findings are but, more importantly, tell you what to do with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Insightful 31 July 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is a testament to the philosophy that the simplest things are usually the best. Dr. Stamm presents her findings in a easy to read, but educational way. You are never too bogged down with the science, but still presented with enough background to understand where the information is coming from. The personal anecdotes also help to create more of a story, making the book very easy to read. Much of the information may seem simple and obvious, but as new parents, many people miss this. Stimulating, but not overstimulating; Don't believe every study that comes out; pay attention to what your baby is telling you. It all sounds very simple, but are things that can easily be forgotten in the moment. I found the book very helpful in understanding the brain development and also what I can do to ensure my baby has the best possible start. I would recommend this to anyone that is about to or already has small children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 18 July 2009
By Mrs N.L
Format:Paperback
I am really pleased with this book. It's split into three parts: attention, bonding, communication. In every part it's clearly explained, backed up with science, all aspect of this ABC. Author including simple games you can do with your baby. They are all put in the order in the end of chapter for example 0-6 mths, 6-18 mths etc, which makes it easier if you want just quick reference on what kind of game to play. Most important you don't need any expensive toys! Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Separating the facts from gimmicks 30 May 2014
By HV
Format:Paperback
I haven't finished reading the book, however, what I've read so far I've found interesting and informative. I think the information will benefit a parent in maximising their ability and time to give their child the best start they can, without having to spend a lot of money on fancy gadgets/toys. The books offers insights into activities/products that actually add value to your child's learning capacity and those that purport to but actually don't. Glad I purchased this book.

The authors provided a very helpful guidance on what to focus on at each stage of baby's development (from birth to 3 years old) and also gave excellent examples of 'brain exercises' you can do with your baby. Very easy and interesting to read and full of great ideas. I loved this book and would recommend it to all future parents.
