4.0 out of 5 stars Makes the quick trip easier 30 Oct 2012
By A. Snyder - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
I really like this bag for the versatility. I have found it to work fantastically well for trips up to 5 days. When there is a need to pack multiple business suits, I tend to opt for a larger bag. But, my usual 1 sports coat with some jeans business trips of late have given this bag a ton of use. It is excellent for packing clothes, cords, business cards, notepads, iPod(s), iPad(s), and up to a 15" laptop. Thankfully I haven't needed to pack a projector as that might be a little much. But without the projector, this bag is incredible as the only bag carried on short trips.

I have two issues with the bag that stopped me from giving it a 5 star rating.

1. The wheels easily get caught in sidewalk cracks and floor imperfections. On a perfectly flat surface, the wheels spin quickly and don't put any drag on your arms (imagine the annoyance of a "slow" bag when running to catch a plane). But when it gets caught.... see point 2....
2. The extending handle is starting to show significant signs of wear due to the number of times I've had to jerk the case to stop it from getting caught in a sidewalk crack or some other imperfection in the flooring it is rolling on

I have a feeling I will need to contact Briggs & Riley about a replacement arm in the future. I can see where it is going to break off after a few more trips. If B&R is reading this, I would suggest looking at the wheel system Thule employs - those wheels can roll over anything.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful bag but needs some continuous improvement. 21 July 2013

The handle opening needs to be larger. It skins my knuckles as noted by another reviwer. Also the laptop storage works fine for my laptop but where to put the power cord is a problem because it must be separated and unaturally coiled to fit in the open trough above the laptop bag/sleave. Wheels are smallish for unpaved surfaces to roll easily. Would be neat to have larger wheels for off road. Also I would like handles on both sides for easier lifting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Generally good but has an odd problem... 21 Mar 2012
By Allan Barnard - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name:Black
As a serious traveler (platinum on everything) my requirements are stringent, starting with thoughtful layout and long-term reliability.

While Tumi has proven capable for me in the past, I recently required a new bag and decided to review (online and in-store) many tough carry-on bags and rolling backpacks which also have space for extra/external laptop/file storage.

I selected and then purchased this Briggs & Riley bag (carry-on computer upright) and immediately experienced a design flaw; granted, it may only affect a taller or larger person.

The handle has an extra plastic "bar" right under the main grip. The overall handle looks nice in the pictures but the silly extra-bar-thingy is only about 1.25 inches from the top grip. My hand, particularly my knuckles, constantly hit the second plastic bar when walking. It was immediate, constant, and ultimately I had to return the bag. Totally unusable.

I then purchased the Tumi 022016DH (carry-on with external computer/file storage) and it has been great through multiple flights and airports since.

I think the Briggs & Riley bag is a good value and well made (hence my initial purchase) but the handle design rendered it absolutely unusable for me. My advice is "go with the Tumi 022016DH instead".
5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent quality 14 Dec 2013

A bit smaller inside than I would like. The extra pockets are great. I am very happy with it. I fly twice a week and use it most days.
5.0 out of 5 stars Another Quality Briggs & Riley bag 29 July 2013
By J. Bruning - Published on Amazon.com

I love the Briggs & Riley bags (most of them) and this one is no exception. Great quality, innovative features. This is a great overnight bag for those quick trips when you want to get by with one carry-on instead of two. Large enough to carry what I need, small enough to fit in *most* overhead compartments (except those toy planes that many carriers are using for short flights).

Can't say I have the same issue with the gap between the two cross bars in the handle that others have mentioned. I never grip the bag with white knuckles, so I don't get my knuckles bruised either. This is such a minor design issue, it hardly merits a mention in the other reviews.

I switched to Briggs & Riley as soon as Tumi discontinued their lifetime warranty. No bag is perfect, and the way the airlines treat bags, they will all fail eventually. Considering the prices these companies charge, all of these brands should have lifetime warranties. Anyone who would purchase Tumi after they changed their warranty is foolish. Doesn't matter how stylish or trendy they are.
