Richie and his wife Clara have won a weekend in New York in a newspaper competition. While Clara is off blowing their spending money, Richie wanders aimlessly, chewing on a veggie-burger, ending up in a gift-shop where he finds himself standing in front of an instant transporter machine. It looks nothing like the open-plan teleporter on Captain Kirk's Starship Enterprise; in fact, it seems more like a glorified microwave oven.
Richie places his burger inside, hits the return key on the linked-up computer - and the burger disappears. But if he can teleport a half-eaten veggie-burger, what else could you do with the machine? For criminals, the possibilities are endless. Who could catch you if you beamed drugs into nostrils a hundred miles away? And how much would illegal immigrants pay to be teleported into the rich host country of their choice?
Richie buys a teleporter and takes it back to England, where the chaos begins ...

I've been a fan of Stephen Clarke ever since "A Year in the Merde". I was really curious to have a look at his take on sci-fi. It's everything I had hoped for. His inimitable humor takes us for a great ride into the future! Check it out...

I just love Stephen Clarke's humor. I've read most all of his books and this is totally hilarious and out there -- it's different from the Merde books, but really entertaining and highly recommended! A bit like Douglas Adams, but in Clarke's cooler and very enjoyable way.

Very dissapointed, could not stop reading the other books, but this one is like it has been written by another person.

Briefly Forgotten
Aspires to be hip, more hip replacement, yes, sad metaphor but about the class of writing here. There is a formula at work in Clarke's smarmy prose, everyone else is a loser. Read more

Quick and Fun
I always find Stephen Clarke hilarious and I'm glad I could escape with him yet again. This was a fun, enjoyable read and 100% Clarke.
