Product Description

An accessible and comprehensive guide to the future of computing. Cloud Computing is the next computing revolution and will have as much impact on your life as the introduction of the PC. Using websites including Facebook, Flickr and Gmail, many people already store some information out in the Internet cloud. However, within a few years most computing applications will be accessed online with the web at the heart of everything we do. In this valuable guide, expert Christopher Barnatt explains how computing will rapidly become more reliable, less complex, and more environmentally friendly. He explores online software and hardware, and how it will alter our office work and personal lives. Individuals and companies are going to be released from the constraints of desktop computing and expensive corporate data centres. New services like augmented reality will also become available. Including coverage of Google Docs, Zoho, Microsoft Azure, Amazon EC2 and other key developments, this book is your essential guide to the cloud computing revolution.

I bought about 10 books on Cloud Computing as I needed to `hit the ground running' for a position which covered everything to do with Cloud Computing and SaaS (or XaaS as I should say). Despite the rather dull cover this book is an excellent read and covers many issues related to Cloud Computing with excellent examples and a broad range of subjects. It's not weighty or over technical and covers many of the basic points well. I'd actually completed my Masters on delivering government services online and thought I'd replace achademic bulk with real-life examples. This book is easy to read and relevant. It covers current Cloud applications, various industry services and some related and fascinating subjects such as the green benefits of using Cloud.

Great stuff - a great book

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read Nicholas Carr's book which was a great primer but this book really bootstrapped my knowledge and understanding of topic.

Thank you!!

I am one of the people that found Christopher's vids and website via a YouTube search/connection one morning looking to try and find a little bit more out about Cloud Computing. His easy to watch introduction vids led me to buying his book and I'm glad that I did. In fact it has to be my surprise book purchase of the year in that it is easy to read but leads you into thinking about the future of 'computing' in a way that takes you gently from your (certainly mine) way of thinking and into the new landscape.

A really well written book that also seems to be aimed at IT decision makers and business owners rather than students, which means that you can really see how to use this in your own business. It's definitely not trying to tell you what to do but to think about the opportunities/threats that the next few years will throw at all of us.
