I bought some short socks from Bridgedale earlier last year, and loved the cushioned feeling on my feet. Got these ones to keep me warm in winter, as I seem to have very cold feet. They are great for everyday wear, and I do walk or work outside a lot. They were around £9 when I bought them, and I have bought several pairs. On really cold days I wear thin cotton socks inside, as liners, and this keeps me even warmer. I can't say what they're like on long walks, as I've only been on shortish walks, but they are not quite thick enough for my walking boots. I'd need a bulky pair underneath, I think, for a trek. ( I do have narrow feet, though).
They are not as cushioned on the soles as the short pair I bought last year, so therefore not as comfortable, but the length is a bonus for winter days. I ordered two blue pairs and three purple pairs of this style. The plum ones are NOT all the same shade. Doesn't bother me, but some might not like this. My partner ordered several pairs in the men's corresponding style, and is pleased with them too, though he does prefer his shorter M & S walking socks with merino wool lining. They look slightly thicker than these ones.

I found the sizing to be spot on for the 3 to 4.5 size. I used them today at a ski resort in Canada and they are super comfy and warm, padding in the right places, decent length etc so would definitely recommend and buy again if I need more.
