About the Author
Eddie Kantar is a Grand Master in the World Bridge Federation and a two–time World Bridge Champion. One of the best–known bridge writers in the world, his books have been translated into 11 foreign languages.
It is difficult to rate this book. Judged like other "For Dummies" books I own, it is a cheap and convenient way to learn. The trouble is, most of this book is about the US bridge game, which is very different from the ACOL system used in the UK.
There is a small appendix at the back for Brits but it is not very comprehensive. I did not find it useful. . If you live in the UK and intend to play bridge here, this is not the book you need.
This is fine for my 21inch monitor desktop but the vital lettering on every diagram is part of the diagram and thus independent of the size of font selected. It is therefore for me unreadable. Whoever put this as an Ebook should have divorced the text on the diagrams from the diagrams themselves. Not a difficult processs. It was drawn up for US bridge but has a section to keep us foreigners happy of ACOL convention....but this is an afterthought.
Bridge is not for everyone, and it's not for old ladies!! Reading through this book you realise just how much thought you need to put into your play if you are to ever hope to win at this complex game. However if you don't know from where to begin, this book can get started by covering all that you need to know. Nothing beats actual practice but a good book such as this one can definitely offer a helping hand.
The dummies series of books are always well written easy to understand books I bought this as a present for a family member who already plays bridge but she said it helped her improve her game
