HYSTERICAL!,
This review is from: Bridesmaids [DVD] (DVD)
Okay, not the best movie of 2011, but definitely one of the funniest. (There's obviously no need to warn anybody that this is a "chick-flik" and may not cross the gender gap.) Kristen Wiig, a talented cast member of America's Saturday Night Live, is spot on with her first lead role in a movie. Wiig's character, Annie, is very real and we empathize with her as everything spins out of control. Maya Rudolph, another Satuday Night alumn, is also very good. This is not the "Casablanca" of comedies, but it's a hoot!

Worth Watching.,

Okay, i never usually review on much things but i want to talk specifically to anybody deciding to buy this DVD. I'm nearly 18 and i was told this movie was next best thing and truly hilarious. It had a few funny scenes and when i say a few i mean like 1 or 2 scenes that made me giggle. I didn't think it was hilarious, not even close. I was a bit disappointed. People reading this will probably shug this review off and move onto a 5 star review which it looks like there are plenty of and i don't understand, where we watching the same movie? I did however like the romance side to the movie involving Officer Rhodes. Maybe thats because i'm a sucker for romance but it saved this movie in my opinion. Without that storyline, i don't believe there would be a storyline at all. I may watch this movie in the future but i won't be holding my breath in excitement anytime soon. I hope this review helped, honestly i do.

Not genre-defining, just very very funny,
This review is from: Bridesmaids [DVD] (DVD)
Genuinely hilarious comedy which I was persuaded to see by the avalanche the positive critical reviews. As someone practically allergic to rom-coms I was apprehensive, but the magnificent Kristen Wiig has successfully managed to co-write and star in something that successfully appeals to men as well as women.Wiig had an excellent cameo in Knocked Up but is best known for her Saturday Night Live work in the States. Here she puts in a quite magnificent performance in what is essentially a much cruder and far funnier version of Bridget Jones. Worth seeing just for the superb set-pieces, ie the dress fitting scene, the flight to Vegas and the row in the jewellers, all laugh-out-loud moments of brilliance. Of course it is still a rom-com so there's a schmaltzy and predictable ending. It is also a tad long in my opinion - the final 40 minutes needed some much tighter editing while other parts feel a bit rushed. It is very sad that Jill Clayburgh, who plays Wiig's character's mum in the movie, died shortly after the movie was finished. Out of respect, some of her cruder lines were cut - absolutely the correct decision but from a filmgoer's position a pity as her performance is terrific and it would have been great to see more of it. The ever-reliable and versatile Sydneysider Rose Byrne is brilliantly cast as the the nemesis bridesmaid - a world away from her previous roles in the likes of Danny Boyle's Sunshine and the recent horror Insidious. The same can't be said for the pointless inclusion of Matt Lucas who landed the role after his own appearances on Saturday Night Live - but his scenes add nothing to the movie and could easily have been cut. These various quibbles aside, this is highly recommended. It is not as ground-breaking and original as some have suggested - but it is by far the funniest movie I've seen in a long, time time.
