Product Description

Product Description

Bride's Mound: Gateway to Avalon celebrates one of Glastonbury's most important, but least known, mystical sites.

The destination of sea-borne travelers from the West, Brides Mound is also the portal into the other world, that of Avalon, the Arthurian paradise. Like Isis, Bride is the Goddess of the Moon - to the Romans she was Minerva, to the Christians, St. Bridget. She is the swordsmith, the healer and the poet, and excels in each calling.

Associated with Mary Magdalene, the Black Madonna and the Celtic festival of Imbolc, Bride is also the sister of the archangel Michael. Her colour is white like the lamb, and the snowdrop that symbolize her. Bride protects the young mother and the old sinner alike - she owns compassion and devotion. Today, she may have exchanged the mantle of Pisces for that of Aquarius, and become the independent, radical female.

About the Author

Gordon Strong is a well-known writer on many mythical and magical subjects. Jane Marshall is the secretary of the Friends of Bride's Mound. Together they have written an informative and fascinating account of one of the most secret, yet significant, sites in the Isle of Avalon. Enchanted by the project, Celtic artist Jen Delyth offered her inspired designs, enhancing the text with her own unique vision.

Format:Paperback
This charming book by Gordon Strong and Jane Marshall, covers the ancient mythological and post-Christian history of the small hillock in Glastonbury known as Bride's Mound, coming up to date with the activities of Friends of Bride's Mound (of whom Jane Marshall is secretary). Beautifully illustrated and presented, this book is a must for anyone with an interest in St Bride/Brighid, and an ancient site dedicated to her in the spiritual context of Glastonbury.
