The international bestseller – an explosive novel of sex, secrecy and escape.
A woman disappears. Her car lies abandoned on a remote bluff; no body is found. She was the good wife, the good mother: mannerly, quiet, self-contained. But she has left behind an incendiary diary chronicling a disturbing journey of sexual awakening.
As the diary opens on her honeymoon in Morocco, she believes herself to be happy – or happy enough, anyway. Swiftly, this security masquerading as love fractures in an act of massive betrayal, only to propel her into a world of desire and fantasy and recklessness. What begins for her in the imagination ends in a tangle of sheets, in a drowning spiral of obsession and release. She dares to rupture convention, learning, for the first time, the intoxicating power of knowing what she wants and how to get it. The question is, how long can her soul sustain a perilous double life?
Coolly impassioned, The Bride Stripped Bare tells shocking truths about love and sex. These are the kind of revelations that best friends whisper to each other and then decide to forget they ever revealed. Couched in a deceptively simple style, it will make you question whether it is ever entirely possible to know another person.

WHAT A FIND,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bride Stripped Bare (Paperback)
I was keen to read this novel after devouring the author's columns each week in the Mail on Sunday. I wasn't disappointed. Her writing is consistently fearless, original and thought-provoking. She is not afraid to speak her mind which is what I love about her journalism and her books. "The Bride Stripped Bare" is about many types of love - that between a husband and wife, a wife and a female friend, a mother and a child, a woman and her lover. But it's also about an everyday housewife finding sexual fulfillment in a most unconventional way, beyond all the compromises of married life. It's about a woman's deepest, darkest thoughts (dare I say every woman's!) I was seduced not only by the courage of the book but by the beauty of its prose. It's a wonderfully satisfying, deeply felt read.

Beachy Head's Loss,
This review is from: The Bride Stripped Bare (Hardcover)
Forget the controversy surrounding the author's identification. Ignore the inaccurate pornographic hype on publication. Set aside the rare but obvious lapses into gender stereotyping. Muse on how much is true versus imagined. Ponder on a frank, female account of sexual awakening in a marriage environment familiar to many but lived by nobody you know - least of all yourself. This well paced novel confronts the tensions which exist between husband and wife, friends and acquaitances; the reality we all deny that ultimately we know ourselves as little as we know others. Exploring the unspoken, unrecognised signals which hold us all back in so many ways, the heroine's unexplained disappearance and fate serve to emphasise the emotional/physical barriers we erect as age, experience and society inexorably blinker us. A compelling novel of at times excruciating honesty. Imperfect in some ways as both characterisation and plot dip into the obvious on occasion, nevertheless the book grips as you wait to see yet another fault line you might be honest enough to recognise. The heroine's disappearance so soon after childbirth is the supreme statement on the state of relationships and the as yet lack of a sound navigation channel through them. I applaud the author and recommend the book.

an amazingly honest, compelling read - couldn't put it down,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bride Stripped Bare (Paperback)
This was one of the best books I've ever read. I kept on thinking "this could be me, it's everything I think." I can imagine that so much of what is in here is really scary for guys, because it's a side of women they never see. I read the book over two nights and as soon as I finished i wanted to begin it all over again. It's sexy, deeply moving, haunting and really touched a raw nerve with me. I think the author was very brave to do what they did. I've passed it on to so many women and they all agree with me. I can't get my copy back, it keeps on being passed around to other women!
