Book Description

1 April 2004

For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey – the international bestseller – an explosive novel of sex, secrecy and escape.

‘You’ve never been in control, until now; you’ve never, before, had exactly what you want…The lights turned off. A touch that’s gentle, slow, provocative, that builds you up, that makes you want it too much…’

Imagine on honeymoon, lulled by sultry heat and the promise of a lifetime’s happiness, you discover a shocking secret about your husband. But instead of destroying you, the knowledge brings freedom; the freedom to bare your soul, explore your deepest desires and discover what you really want.

THE BRIDE STRIPPED BARE is the story of a passionate sexual awakening, as erotic as it is dangerous.

The seduction goes further when a married woman recalls her first love affair in Nikki Gemmell’s WITH MY BODY…

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A FIND 10 May 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I was keen to read this novel after devouring the author's columns each week in the Mail on Sunday. I wasn't disappointed. Her writing is consistently fearless, original and thought-provoking. She is not afraid to speak her mind which is what I love about her journalism and her books. "The Bride Stripped Bare" is about many types of love - that between a husband and wife, a wife and a female friend, a mother and a child, a woman and her lover. But it's also about an everyday housewife finding sexual fulfillment in a most unconventional way, beyond all the compromises of married life. It's about a woman's deepest, darkest thoughts (dare I say every woman's!) I was seduced not only by the courage of the book but by the beauty of its prose. It's a wonderfully satisfying, deeply felt read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense. 1 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book is a little intense, to say the least. It's about a woman who embarks on sexual adventure to escape from a stuffy marraige. It reads very well and is one I'm going to keep for refrence in the future. I would also recommend "Playtime" (Kim Corum) and any Nancy Friday book, as they are similiar to this one.

This was one of the best books I've ever read. I kept on thinking "this could be me, it's everything I think." I can imagine that so much of what is in here is really scary for guys, because it's a side of women they never see. I read the book over two nights and as soon as I finished i wanted to begin it all over again. It's sexy, deeply moving, haunting and really touched a raw nerve with me. I think the author was very brave to do what they did. I've passed it on to so many women and they all agree with me. I can't get my copy back, it keeps on being passed around to other women!

I related to this book completely as I suspect a large number of married women will. From the dark thoughts and suspicions to the need to escape into a world of sexual fantasy and desire. I can understand that a man reading this book will find it uncomfortable reading and may look at his wife in a different way afterwards which might be a good thing. Read it and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for everyone in a relationship 30 Mar 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is one of the most intensely moving books I've read in a long time. It's about a woman who, dissatisfied with her humdrum marriage, decides the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and, although she fights it initially, allows herself to become involved for a short, passionate, time, with another man.

It explores the different kinds of love we all experience at some point in our lives; the kind of love which is like a warm blanket on a cold night; the almost obsessional kind which overwhelms you with its intensity but that you know is impossible to last; the unconditional love which parents hold for their child.

If you have ever experienced any of these emotions, it's worth reading. The key thing that I took away from this book, is that it could happen to normal people just like you or I.

It's not a book for anyone with strong moralistic views about what is right and what is wrong in a relationship, but if you believe that people are human and therefore make mistakes and learn from them, and approach this book with an open mind, it will change your outlook on what a relationship really is - and will challenge your view on what you really need to be happy in a relationship.

I won't spoil the ending for you, but some of you will go away thinking 'Phew, glad that's not me!' and others will go away thinking 'Phew, that could so easily have been me!' :) Enjoy!

Was really looking forward to this book as I have already read and thoroughly enjoyed the Fifty Shades Trilogy and Bared to you. Was horribly disappointed from the start and only persisted with it in the hope that it might get better - it didn't. Hated the style of writing and found the titles of the 'lessons' bizarre. I found it hard to work out what time it was actually supposed to be set in and the main character wholly unrealistic and odd. I found the ending a real let down and unrelated to the rest of the story and was left feeling very cheated and at a loss to understand the whole book. Would definitely not recommend this book. My friend who also enjoyed the FSOG books etc felt exactly the same about this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, Spellbounding, Sensual 3 Aug 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
So brutally honest - so passionate and very sexy...this book is beautifully written and its characters will haunt you for a long time after finishing - there is nothing I can write that will describe how superb (and addictive) this book is - do it justice by reading it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beachy Head's Loss 29 Jan 2004
Format:Hardcover
Forget the controversy surrounding the author's identification. Ignore the inaccurate pornographic hype on publication. Set aside the rare but obvious lapses into gender stereotyping. Muse on how much is true versus imagined. Ponder on a frank, female account of sexual awakening in a marriage environment familiar to many but lived by nobody you know - least of all yourself.
This well paced novel confronts the tensions which exist between husband and wife, friends and acquaitances; the reality we all deny that ultimately we know ourselves as little as we know others. Exploring the unspoken, unrecognised signals which hold us all back in so many ways, the heroine's unexplained disappearance and fate serve to emphasise the emotional/physical barriers we erect as age, experience and society inexorably blinker us.
A compelling novel of at times excruciating honesty. Imperfect in some ways as both characterisation and plot dip into the obvious on occasion, nevertheless the book grips as you wait to see yet another fault line you might be honest enough to recognise. The heroine's disappearance so soon after childbirth is the supreme statement on the state of relationships and the as yet lack of a sound navigation channel through them.
I applaud the author and recommend the book.

Not too bad once you get into it - although it was hard to follow at times. Story was OK but not as good a Fifty Shades and character could sometimes be annoying.
