Book Description

Is love timeless?
Does only one true love exist for each person?
Can the course of history be changed in order to save a future generation?

Sophie Ford, awaiting a heart transplant, thought she was sleeping in the arms of her beloved husband, Jamie. However, she has woken to find herself in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 1863, without explanation as to how she got there, or where her husband is.

Taking refuge with a doctor and his family, she finds herself in a volatile relationship with their neighbor, Richard Madden. His expectations and desires become difficult to ignore, and Sophie must find a way to hold off his pursuit.

She rejoices when a soldier, looking identical to Jamie, arrives. Although he claims he doesn't know her, she's convinced he's her husband and sets out to make him remember. Sophie races against time as she faces increasing pressure from Richard, who threatens their chance to reunite.

Can she break through Jamie's barriers and bring his memory back? And once found, can their love survive living in a different century?

5.0 out of 5 stars A charming, warm, character driven book 29 April 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition
I didn't agree with the other reviews on this book. I found this book to have a charm and warmth that I really enjoyed. It is also worth mentioning that this is the first in a series of books that are linked with characters, so I'm not sure the author wanted to explain everything in the first book. I got the impression there is a wider story to be explored through the other books.
The characters in the story were very human. They had their faults as well as their good points. Richard was a great and memorable character, who I am sure will turn up in the next book as the hero is his younger brother. He is a very troubled man we only learn a bit about and I look forward to reading more about him.
I found Sophie and Jamie's love to be both warm and sweet. I really wanted them to find each other again and enjoyed them rediscovering each other and their love.
Explanations were given for why Sophie was chosen to go back and for why the man from the future wanted her dead. It may have been missed if the reviewer skim read some of the book. Some of the back plot feels like it will be ongoing in the series, however, so some more explanations are probably to come.
In all this has the feeling of an epic, where it goes over quite an expanse of time, but I loved every moment and am egar to read the next book. If you are looking for lots of explict or discriptive sex scenes and/or action and violence then this probably isn't for you. However, if you like character driven, little house on the praire style story telling, I think you will love this too.

    2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 18 April 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book started out well and the plot could have developed into a very interesting read. However, the number of typing and grammatical errors was annoying, as was the lack of continuity (i.e. they got up from the breakfast table for a private discussion then resumed their lunch!) I lost count of the number of times they went in for breakfast/lunch/dinner and got up from breakfast etc. etc., also changing dresses, taking naps - yaawwwn. The whole thing fizzled out leaving nothing explained - why was the guy from the future trying to kill her? Why had they time travelled in the first place? Why was Richard behaving so totally out of character - and that all fizzled out. Very lame, badly thought through and boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars What Price Love ... Ten Cows? 30 May 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Don't get me wrong I didn't hate this, it was okay'ish as novels go.

The concept was good, but some parts seemed to be a little laborious, whilst the end just seemed to be precipitous. In my humble opinion it would have been better to have taken a little more care with the winding up, rather than a mad dash uphill and quick run off the edge. If the end was re-written it could well have come up by another star.

I did particularly like the "Ten Cow" explanation, and it worked well within the work as a whole.

As ebooks go though, it was not a badly delivered product. I believe just one mistake (see below) was found (and you all know I like to find them), so the author should be commended on the delivery of a good quality product.

If it weren't for the hurried ending it would have got 4 stars, but from me it's 3 stars.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm... 2 April 2013
    By rachel
    Format:Kindle Edition
I just can't make my mind up about this book! I've given it 3 stars because I like the fact that its a historical novel and I do like the storyline. However, I feel as though the characters lack depth. The consistency if the story varies also. One minute they're in the present and are then transported into the past. Some aspects of the story happen far too quickly and lack explanation, whereas some elements of the story drag on far longer than they needed to. I felt that the story ended rather abruptly also. This story seemed to have real potential but was actually a bit of a let down to be honest.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't really go anywhere 29 Mar. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I always try to see the best in books and this had a promising storyline to begin with. I just found that I was still waiting for it to take off and it finished! I'm sure the author planned to reveal the bigger picture over a series of books but the characters didn't engage me enough to bother reading the next installment. Disappointed but it was free so nothing lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Historic novel with a twist 26 Aug. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoy a good historic novel, especially where there is a twist to the story. Not read many books based on American history so this was a new period to me. Plenty of action as well as a love story, can't go far wrong with that combination in my opinion.

I am hopelessly addicted to the Civil War Brides series, I have read them all and loved them, they are keepers and will be re-read. This was a free download and another book I would quite happily have paid for. Can't wait for the next one.
