4.0 out of 5 stars good read 13 Mar 2003
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
She was brought up in Egypt where her parents move from one dig to the next only facinated by the past and no time for her.
He looked out for her during those times - falling in love but she was too young. Then when she was old enough to marry they eloped to Vegas but the very next day he gets the job offer of a life time and promises to return. [only he ends up in jail].
Brokenhearted she moves away not telling him of the baby she is now carrying.
5 years later she is in a plane crash which only she survives and realises maybe her child needs to know their father - but will he forgive her for keeping this secret from him ?

Like all Patti's books this is a good fun easy read with a happy ending - buy the book you will enjoy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Corny and lacking originality... 1 Dec 2001
By Reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I did not buy this book, and for that I am extremely glad (...) My friend lent to me this book and Wife For A Day and I read Wife For A Day first because it sounded like the book that would not be quite as good and I like to save the best for last. Strangely enough, I was very impressed with Wife For A Day and was expecting an even better read when I moved onto the next...unfortunately this is not what I got. I am only right now in the middle of the book and I am debating whether or not I should finish it at all. Lets face it, the characters are boring. The dialogue between them is unrealistic and unintelligent. The plot seems like it was taken from a million other romance novels and Ms. Berg just subbed in the names. In the beginning, when Duncan first sees Cairo in the cave, is he startled to see her? No. It's been 5 years, he was never expecting to see her again, least of all in caves, and all he said was, "What are you doing here, Cairo?" with no feeling whatsoever. And it even mentioned that after Cairo fell and had her palm filled with cactus needles that the jerk liked seeing her in pain. I was not charmed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Full of Heart! 27 Jun 2000
By "ericlew" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Patti Berg has done it again with a fast-paced, fun read, full of heart and delightful characters. Indiana Jones has nothing on Duncan Kincaid, a hunk of an adventurer who's quest for a lost treasure has brought him to Sanctuary, Montana. His ex-wife, Cairo McKnight, embarks on an adventure of her own when she decides that her son needs his father. But is Duncan father- material, or the irresponsible adverturer who left her after only one night of marriage? Cairo vows to find out before she takes the step to unite Duncan with the son he doesn't know he has.

Duncan and Cairo have great chemistry and heat up the pages with their attraction to each other. Ms. Berg also gives the reader a tender secondary love story between Cairo's free-spirited aunt and Duncan's father, a widower who needs a little nudge to take another chance on life.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fun story from a wonderful author... 16 May 2000
By Barbara Deane - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Patti Berg's latest book from Avon, Bride for A Night, is a wonderful contemporary and a great follow up to her wildly popular Wife for A Day. Bride for A Night is Patti's seventh book and is surely another hit to add to her impressive book list.

Duncan Kincaid and Cairo McKnight are archaeologists, and they are also divorced. They met when Cairo, raised by archaeologist parents who named her for the city of her birth, was only a teenager following Duncan around the dig site. As they grew, their friendship developed into love, which led to a impulsive Las Vegas marriage. Unfortunately, after a wonderfully romantic and sexually inspiring wedding night, Duncan left. The fact was that he went to Egypt on a dig and got wrongfully arrested, in addition to having to fly home after his parents were in a car accident that killed his mother and permanently disabled his father. However, the only thing that Cairo could see was that he married her, shared her bed, left the next day, and didn't contact her. When Cairo's parents pushed for an annulment, Cairo agreed. Shortly thereafter, she learned she was pregnant.

Now, five years later, Cairo seeks out Duncan at his dig site in Montana to beg for his help in saving her failing tour business. She has never told Duncan about their son Dylan, but a brush with death has convinced her that she needs to see if Duncan can be a stable and reliable father to their child, who happens to be a accident-prone genius.

For those of you who know and love Patti's paranormal books, you will be pleased to know that there is just a touch of the paranormal in this story in Duncan's "conversations" with Angus MacPherson, the nineteenth-century mountain man who originally found a city of gold in Montana. The humor provided by Angus's observations and, Dylan's questions and catastrophes adds an important element to this relationship. The secondary characters, including Cairo's aunt and Duncan's father, who develop a relationship of their own, are very strong. The suspense of Duncan's quest and the danger for Duncan, Cairo and Dylan associated with it, both physically and emotional, will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book combines all of these elements in a wonderful way to create an unforgettable story. Great work, Patti - keep 'em coming! Copyright 2000, Barb's All Romance Book Store
