I have read many Margaret Forster books, about 20 in all, even the hard-to-find early ones, but this is almost certainly in my Top Three. It is unlike anything else she has written, full of thrills and twists and Gothic romance, and reminded me of Wuthering Heights. Beautifully atmospheric, characters you empathize and sympathize with, a cracking read. The Bride Of Lowther Fell is not recognised as one of Forster's more famous novels but if you haven't read I urge you to. One of Britain's greatest living authors.
