I have a lot of brickwork to repair/replace and lay new patios & paths, etc. and have had some ridiculously high quotes so decided to find a book to help me do the most I can and to leave really complicated bits to the professionals and save some money. I have looked at loads of books and this one looked the best on paper and it truly is!! I couldn't believe how well written this book was; step-by-step instructions, fabulous colour photo's guiding you bit by bit. As a non-bricklaying female I was completely in the dark about how to even start a project let alone lay the groundworks for it with hardcore, etc. With the help of this book starting from how to mix mortar to laying foundations, to different types of bricks, pointing and bricklaying I am now completing a cottage path from scratch, repointing stone brickwork, replacing and repointing bricks in a garden wall and laying block paving, etc. The sense of personal achievement actually outweighs the reality of saving thousands of pounds in labour costs had I employed someone to do it. I'm now going to tackle the big projects to see how they turn out too.

If you adhere to building the projects which are shown in the book then you will be left in no doubt as to what you have to do to build the projects: all the photographs are in high quality colour and 'exploded' views of each project are clearly shown. Truly, a tribute to the authors and publishers.
