5.0 out of 5 stars The best cricket game available, 5 Sep 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Let me start by saying that this game is superb. Having already purchased Brian Lara for the XBOX360 I was expected a basic conversion of this game with inferior graphics.
However, the gameplay has been improved and this makes the PSP version the best on the market across any platform.
The reaction fielding for slip catches which is over difficult on the 360 has been taken out, whist the outfielding has been improved.
The batting and bowling are still all about timing and are easy to pick up.
At my first attempt I played a 40 over game with both teams scoring around 170. There are various difficulty levels to suit the user.
What more could you want than a great playing game and the option to play a World Cup Tournament with all the major stars of Cricket.

4.0 out of 5 stars A start for the PSP, 19 Sep 2007
By Kevinho (Durham, UK) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I also think the reviews below have been quite harsh. I have been enjoying playing this game and think its definitely more playable than EA's cricket series. Its easy to learn and pick up and play and those are important attributes for a PSP game. The Pressure Play mode is especially good for learning the game and is fun on its own. Batting in particular is quite easy to learn and when playing a proper game newbies will not get pummelled into the ground as with the EA games. Bowling may be a little on the easy side but it is also easy to get used to the control system for this which is a plus, and in addition you can edit the field settings etc if you so desire.

The main weakness is that it could do with more modes, particularly a test mode and a domestic cricket mode, and some kind of rolling mode where you play over a career would be nice. I'm not so concerned about the lack of commentary as it usually comes round on games anyway, and is usually just annoying after a while. Besides, real cricketers cannot hear the commentators, so why should commentary be in a sim? Loading times are a little slow, but have you ever played a PSP game with fast loading times?

All in all I think this is one of the better cricket games I have played, and most importantly its on the PSP, so I don't have to play MLB 07 (although it is a great game too) anymore to get my fix of bat on ball! Hopefully Codemasters will note the strong sales and release a version with more modes in future.

2.0 out of 5 stars 3rd umpires decision ?, 4 Sep 2007

.....Not to sure about this. I was really looking forward to having cricket available on my PSP. and to be honest i feel let down. the game just feels unfinished, pure and simple it just lacks polish. you can bet if this was an EA sports game it would reek class. but for some reason they have just concentrated on making a game that was based on the last cricket world cup.and thats it, wow must have been a slow day at the office for ideas being pitched that day . surely it would have been better to have aligned it with the forth coming 20Twenty world cup and scaled the game down to suit the portible format(just an idea chaps ,bit of blue sky thinking lets do lunch ok?). you know quick games you can play on the go, up to date teams , diffrent formats such as county 20Twenty teams . it didnt have to be ODI cricket and glad it wasnt 5 day, it just needed more thought In my opinion.Game play? it plays well cant really conplain about that , graphics? are ok , sound? disapointing.
oh well maybe lara 2008 will be better.
