As the other reviewer stated - this toaster is too small for standard sized bread - so to get a nicely toasted piece of bread you have to toast it, turn the bread upside down and then toast again. Not only that but the down switch is difficult to use - seems incredible I know - it's just a switch but it doesn't like to stay down. You have to develop a little flick action at the bottom in order for it to stay put. No visitor to my house has managed to use it without help. I have had this toaster for a few months, I thought I had developed a refined technique to overcome it's shortcomings yet tonight after months of use I had a right ol' tussle with it to get the switch to stay down which resulted in three(!) broken nails (including one painful break halfway down the nail bed!) and the black tab of the down switch breaking off. It simply isn't good enough - this is a toaster we are talking about. One that can't toast properly and that sometimes you may have to fight it (and it fights back). A staggering fail from Breville who are normally ok. Avoid.
