Product Description

Product Description

Shake up your cooking style and start preparing meat and poultry products in the home with the Breville VTP141 Meat Grinder. This innovative appliance enables you to efficiently grind all kinds of meat and poultry for a variety of everyday foods. Use this fresh mince to make your own barbeque staples such as hamburgers and sausages or winter warmers like stuffings and pie fillings. Give it centre stage with meat balls and meat loaf; grind it to a smooth paste for pâté and spread or just keep it thick and lumpy in dishes like lasagne and chilli con carne. Alternatively, ditch the meat and go veggie crushing nuts for vegetarian roasts. And you can season to your own requirements, adding herbs and spices to your personal taste and can monitor the amount of salt and fat that goes into your recipes. The meat grinder has a powerful 500 watt (W) motor and the heavy-duty tray, knob and blades are made from stainless steel, a material known for being less corrosive and more resistant to rusting than others and boasts antibacterial properties that keep it hygienic. The grind chute is detachable for easy cleaning and there is a reverse button to change the direction of the spiral. Choose the consistency you want with the three exchangeable stainless steel cutting blades, offering coarse, medium and fine grinding options. The kit also includes a food pusher to help insert the food into the grinder and a sausage stuffer for perfectly-formed sausages. The unit has non-slip feet for safety and comes with great recipes to get you inspired in the kitchen.

Box Contains

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so good for sausages 27 Aug 2012
    By TonyR

In fairness, this machine is decently built and the price is not unreasonable, but I do have 2 quibbles with it:
    (1) On my one, the motor drive shaft is slightly off-centre, so that the whole of the mincer apparatus wobbles slightly when in use. When fully tightened up, it's only moving by a millimeter or so, but it does seem rather crude.
    (2) As a sausage-maker, which is what I bought it for, they only supply a single stuffing funnel. The published specs don't tell you what size this is - but it turns out to be around 30mm, which is right at the top end of the range. The largest collagen casings readily available in the UK are 32mm, and these will only just fit. Additionally, the taper is considerable, so you get only make 5 or 6 sausages in one run before stopping and rethreading. An additional (smaller) funnel would have cost almost nothing - but they don't supply one.
In short - a fairly decent mincer but not recommended for sausages, hence only 3 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to use meat grinder 11 Feb 2012
    By roses
    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
As meat grinders go I think this model is relatively compact. Never having used a meat grinder before I wasn't too sure what to expect.

The manual is very informative and even comes with several burger and sausage recipes to inspire you. The assembly was surprisingly straight forward and it took me no time at all to get started. It has a good motor but the noise is unnerving as its louder than my blender. But once you get used to it, it really is simple to use, and as long as you assemble it properly and be sensible about what you feed in, for example meat with no bones, then it's fairly safe. There are some precautions you need to be aware of which the manual is clear on, but that is the same with any other kitchen appliance you use.

This is a nice looking bit of kit, and once all the attachments are removed it's fairly easy to store away in a cupboard as it's shaped almost like a cube. The attachments where the meat the feeds through all comes apart easily which makes it super simple to wash and clean. It comes with a sausage feeder and three cutter plates, which allows you to create different consistencies and get a bit creative. There are four sucker feet at the bottom which are surprisingly strong and gives the unit a lot of grip on the work surface, the food tray and plunger also adds to the safety precautions. Overall this unit was very well thought out and makes meat grinding a little less scary and safer at home.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Breville VTP141 Meat Grinder 12 Dec 2011

    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I have often thought about grinding my own meat to make mince and sausages but always thought it to difficult to do myself, that was until my Breville Grinder arrived. The grinder was very easy to set up,I felt confident that it would not slide about the worktop as the suction pads on the feet feel solid. The breville is a good looking bit of kit,and with a bit oil on the surfaces to stop rusting should stay good looking for ages to come. Grinding could not be easier, just chop the meat into chunks put it in the machine and away it goes, then out comes lovely mince. It makes fantastic sausage meat to which you can add your own spices and herbs. I really like this product and if you fancy making your own blend of sausages or just want to know what goes into your mince then this Breville meat grinder is for you.

    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I'm in two minds about this meat grinder.

One the one hand: it's a typically high quality Breville product, which is very easy to use and produces good and consistent results. It's a pleasure to create sausages or mince with it, knowing that the meat is fresh and high quality.

On the other hand, this is quite a hefty (weight and size) machine, and our current kitchen can only just fit it comfortably on the work surface. When not in use it's bulky to store, and it's not a product that I think I will use very often. Apart from the quality of the meat, I'm not sure there are that many benefits from mincing your own - after all, the mince you get from a butcher's has only just gone through the same process.

For what it does, this product gets five stars. If you know you want/need a meat grinder, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. However, make sure you have a large enough kitchen to store it and/or a strong enough inclination to mince your own before shelling out for this particular behemoth!

5.0 out of 5 stars breville meat grinder 7 Dec 2011

    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I've never tried mincing meat myself before for fear of ruining it or hurting myself. However, since getting this machine, I have found that it is quite easy to do and after a couple of practice runs, I have got the hang of doing it properly. The machine is relatively easy to clean and I am happy with the consistency of the meat I have got so far. It can be used to make sausages to so I intend to have a go at doing those over christmas but all in all, an excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy kitchen gadget 11 Dec 2011
    By Sarah Lambert VINE™ VOICE
    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This grinder works efficiently to mince any cuts of meat, fish or even veg. It has a good motor and 3 different attachments to vary the grade of mince from coarse to fine. I had no problems with setting up the grinder and it's straightforward to use; just chop your meat into chunks, avoiding bones, and feed into the top of the machine, and out comes lovely mince! It's not too bad to clean and doesn't take up too much space. The sucker feet mean it stays put on the worktop and it's not too noisy. It comes with a sausage attachment which I haven't had a chance to try yet, but I am looking forward to producing some tasty home-made sausages.
