The Breville VKJ473 brushed stainless steel jug kettle combines classic design with high performance. It is high wattage--3 kilowatt (kW)--keeping the boiling time short to save you time and has a concealed element. This makes it easier to clean and more energy efficient than an immersed element, requiring a lower minimum water level in order to function safely. It has a capacity of 1.5 litres (l) and so can accommodate about five to seven cups--ideal for families. The VKJ473 is designed with a rear water gauge indicating water level to help you fill the kettle to the desired amount and the switch illuminates blue on boiling giving your kettle a sophisticated style. The kettle is fitted with a non-slip, 360° rotational base for left and right-handed usage and cord storage to keep your kitchen worktop fuss-free

Our old Russell Hobbs started leaking after 10 years of faithful stylish service. We bought the breville cafe series first which was lovely but stopped working after a couple of months. It was replaced by Fenwick but that one stopped after a couple of weeks! Anyway we choose this kettle because it has one handed lid opening, metal interior as well as exterior, not too much window ( to leak / get scaled up) and reasonable access to put the water in. This combination of features is remarkably hard to find! It works fine so far but like most modern kettles it is noisey also water can bypass the filter in the spout.

Performed well for about 6 months, looks good, boils quickly.
Then developed a leak around the base, slow at first.

Unfortunately I have had this kettle for just under a year and it is now leaking from the base. Obviously a design fault. Will keep clear of Breville in future.

Leaking kettle
I chose this kettle for its looks and the Breville name, unfortunatly it started to leak from the base within just a few months of purchase.

good kettle with some pouring issues
good fast boiling kettle however it has a habit of dribbling boiling hot water all over the place if it's filled too the maximum so a bit of care is needed and it is quite noisy. Read more
