The Breville VKJ425 black jug kettle combines modern design with high performance. It is high wattage--3 kilowatt (kW)--keeping the boiling time short to save you time and has a concealed element. This makes it easier to clean and more energy efficient than an immersed element, requiring a lower minimum water level in order to function safely. It has a capacity of 1.7 litres (l) and so can accommodate about six to eight cups--ideal for families. The VKJ425 is designed with extra large dual water windows indicating water level to help you fill the kettle to the desired amount. And these windows illuminate, blue when on standby changing to a dramatic red when boiling, making it easier to judge the correct amount and giving your kettle a sophisticated style. Purchased this kettle to match the breville toaster, this kettle is black as some kettles say they are black and end up charcoal grey, This ketttle boils very fast better than the breville kettle it is replacing. having tried loads of kettles over the past thirty years I find breville outlasts other kettles, only one small downside the spout is very pointed and sometimes drips.

I bought this to replace my old stainless stell Breville kettle. Like my old one this is blue on standby, and red when being used. I've had it a few weeks now and it's much better than my previous chrome/stainless kettles as there's no finger prints or water stains. It's a lovely looking kettle and is easy to fill up with no drips when pouring.
Another thing it doesn't do is over boil too much. My last Breville over boiled for what seemed like ages and I was constantly switching it off myself to stop the kitchen becoming full of steam.

This is the second Breville kettle we have had with the previous one lasting five years. The VKJ425 which we now have is disappointing. True the boiling water lights up red while it is heating and, when it switches off, is lighted blue. However, when pouring, the water spills out from the spout even when it is not overfilled. Another drawback is that to fill this kettle the lid swings back but does not leave a wide enough space easily to get the tap inside the lid, the kettle has to be tilted to fill with water and the kettle plus the water is quite heavy. The previous design kettle had a removable lid.
