Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Breville VKJ366 black and polished stainless steel jug kettle combines modern design with high performance. It is high wattage--3 kilowatt (kW)--keeping the boiling time short to save you time and has a concealed element. This makes it easier to clean and more energy efficient than an immersed element, requiring a lower minimum water level in order to function safely. It has a capacity of 1.7 litres (l) and so can accommodate about six to eight cups--ideal for families. The VKJ366 is designed with dual water windows indicating water level to help you fill the kettle to the desired amount. And these windows illuminate blue to red when boiling, making it easier to judge the correct amount and giving your kettle a sophisticated style.

The VKJ366 also features an innovative Still Warm function which ensures the brightly-coloured illumination continues after boiling until the temperature of the water drops below 80 degree Celsius. Once the temperature falls below 80 degrees Celsius it is no longer suitable for using in hot drinks or for cooking purposes, however kettles are frequently and unnecessarily re-boiled before dropping to 80 using energy and wasting pennies. It can take up to 20 minutes for this drop to occur, plenty of time to grab a second cuppa, and yet it's all-to-easy to casually flick the 'On' switch and boil for a second time.

This clever feature quickly alerts you to the status of the kettle's temperature so you can tell whether it requires further boiling or if it's still hot enough to stretch for another round. This innovative design is both money-saving and eco-friendly, while the illumination packs function and finesse.

The kettle is fitted with a non-slip, 360° rotational base for left and right-handed usage and cord storage to keep your kitchen worktop fuss-free.

Product Description

This kettle also provides an efficient 1.7 litre boil capacity. 3 kW. Capacity 1.7 litres. Concealed element. Rapid boil. Boil dry protection - automatically switches off when the kettle is empty. Removable, washable limescale filter. Illuminated water window. Blue to red illu

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
You wouldn't think it could take so much thought to design a suave kettle, yet Breville seemingly can't help but release a new model every couple of months. Enter the 'VKJ366' - a product that, so far, seems to correct all the annoyances or prior efforts.

Less is certainly more here, for the simpler black casing is not the finger print-magent that you will commonly find with Breville's chrome efforts which look dirty after just a couple of days. The lid is no longer a 'pop up' (spring mechanism) style, which is brilliant for at least two reasons; drips of boiling water don't splash when you open the lid, and the hinge isn't going to wear as quick. In replacement, a simple latch design is built into the lid, requiring the user to 'pull up' a wide lever which, in turn, unlocks.

Underneath the spout, we also have a removable filter which slides very simply in and out of place. This feature isn't new, but its noteworthy because it prevents any debris being poured out of the kettle. If such was the case however, I'd be worried for the quality of your tap water!

Perhaps best of all though, this is one of the first Breville kettles in which those famed LED lights actually have a bloody purpose. After boiling your water, a red light will glow inside your product to indicate whether your water is ready to be boiled again (should you have left it for an extended period of time) or if its still OK to use. Yes, there really are no gimmicks this time round. Whoever believe a function called 'ColourSelect' was worthy of a Trade Mark should be fired anyway.

A final improvement is the actual Boil On/Off button - this is now larger, and easier to flick into either position.

The quality of these Breville kettles have slowly improved over time, and this model indicates to me that we finally have a product which isn't flawed in some way. Compared to other products, they are still vastly more expensive and offer reasonable amounts of noise whilst boiling, but few competitors will offer the same contemporary designs or reliable build quality.

Hadn't even considered changing my kettle before. After all, they all just boil water, yeah? Why change? Ok, this new kettle will not revolutionise your life, and the black finish may not match every kitchen decor out there. But this kettle does what it does (ie boil water) very well. It's significantly quicker then any other kettle, has a filter, a handy "cup" guide on the side (none of this pesky "litres" nonsense), and a light-show every time you switch it on. It changes from blue (cold), through green, purple and finally finishes on red. It also stays red to show that the water inside is still hot enough to make a drink from, without having to switch it back on. Handy feature for all the eco-warrioirs out there.

Bought this kettle in July 2011 and was impressed with the performance at first. After 6 months the lid became stiff to open when filling and then one of the lugs broke off. As stated elsewhere these are very thin and are definitely not robust enough for the job they were designed for.
Cannot recommend this product and would advise you to avoid it.
