Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Breville VKJ149 silver plastic Brita filter jug kettle combines modern design with high performance. It is high wattage--3 kilowatt (kW)--keeping the boiling time short to save you time and has a concealed element. This makes it easier to clean and more energy efficient than an immersed element, requiring a lower minimum water level in order to function safely. It has a capacity of 1 litre (l) and features Brita filter technology which works as the kettle is boiling. This Brita filter uses a mixture of carbon and ion exchange resin to remove hardness, chlorine, heavy metals such as lead and copper, and other organic impurities from your water to improve its taste, smell and appearance. The kettle includes a recyclable Brita Maxtra cartridge which features a Memo display that automatically reminds you when your filter cartridge needs to be changed.

The VKJ149 is designed with an extra-large water window indicating water level to help you fill the kettle to the desired amount. And this window illuminates blue when boiling, making it easier to judge the correct amount and giving your kettle a sophisticated style. This is complemented by the silver plastic body adding to the smart effect. The kettle is fitted with a non-slip, 360° rotational base for left and right-handed usage and cord storage to keep your kitchen worktop fuss-free.

This is a nice enough kettle with the added feature of a Brita filter. It boils rapidly (does half a litre in just under a minute and a half) with a blue light to indicate when it is on and looks pretty stylish too.

One slight flaw perhaps; the kettle holds 1 litre of water but the filter reservoir only holds half a litre. So, if you want to fill your kettle you'll have to fill the reservoir once, wait for it to percolate through and then re-fill.

The kettle uses Brita Maxtra filters, one of which comes supplied with the product and are recommended to be changed every four weeks.

This kettle is a delight it is light I went for the plastic rather than the Stainless Steel as my last one was Stainless Steel and was quiet heavy, OK for me but my 86 year old mother couln't lift it, it pours like a dream and is quieter than the one it replaced a Morphy Richards purchased approx 2½ years ago which was heavy, leaked when you poured, lid hinge broke and I had to use gaffer tape to keep the lid on. Will definitely buy another Breville.

Love my kettle. It boils in seconds and the water quality is much improved. It also lights up like a space ship!! The replacement filters are easy to fit and the usage gauge means the water is always properly filtered

Good idea but didn't last a year
We live in a hard water area, so the idea of a combined filter and kettle seemed a good idea.
But the button that opens the lid broke within the year. Very poorly built. Read more

Good fiter kettle, but a couple of glaring problems
