The Breville VKJ138 polished stainless steel jug kettle combines modern design with high performance. It is high wattage--3 kilowatt (kW)--keeping the boiling time short to save you time and has a concealed element. This makes it easier to clean and more energy efficient than an immersed element, requiring a lower minimum water level in order to function safely. It has a capacity of 1.7 litres (l) and so can accommodate about six to eight cups--ideal for families. The VKJ138 is designed with large dual water windows indicating water level to help you fill the kettle to the desired amount. And these windows illuminate blue when boiling, making it easier to judge the correct amount and giving your kettle a sophisticated style. The kettle is fitted with a non-slip, 360° rotational base for left and right-handed usage and cord storage to keep your kitchen worktop fuss-free.

Had this kettle for a year. Boils real quick. Well designed and nice to use. No plasticy taste like we've had with some other jug kettles, no leaks (I think the taste and leaks have been linked with previous kettles so watch out if yours tastes funny could be the adhesive going and you could be in for leakage) Sadly hinge on lid has broken so no longer closes. Would happily have another of these.

Breville VKJ138 Polished Stainless Steel Jug Kettle
I was pleased at first. Then after two months it started to make a strange noise even an hour or two after is had boiled. The switch on the kettle was off and the only way to stop the noise was to switch it off at the mains. Then I noticed water all over the worktop. I cleaned it up and went away for the weekend. Again water was on the worktop. I noticed it was leaking at the base of one of the windows. Now I am trying to find my receipt. Has there been a recall on these?

Loved the design from the start. Looked at loads of kettles but this one's stream-lined-retro and I cant stop staring at it. It matches the toaster and brightens up the kitchen on dull days.
My priorities were:
1. Weight - has to be light before you fill it - this one is.
2. Fast boil - got the cup, stuck the bag in, was just getting the sugar and the thing had finished.
3. Easy-to-see water level - very clear indeed.
4. Easy-fill spout and non-drip - top marks
(I rang Breville, up North, to ask if there had been any leakage problems with this model, they said NO WAY JOSE)

GOT THIS KETTLE A YEAR AND A HALF AGO.PAID LESS THAN £20.00 FOR IT IT WAS ON OFFER.I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH IT DOES'NT TAKE LONG TO BOIL WATER AND A NICE LIGHT. Read more
