Product Description

Product Description

Looking to whip up a mouthwatering treat? Opt for a hand blender--the smaller, more portable alternative to a blender. Unlike mini-choppers or processors, this type of blending favours foods with a higher water content. It's ideal for fixing soups, sauces, milkshakes and smoothies. You can also use it with fruits, vegetables and softer foods.

The Breville VHB063 goes one step further than most hand blenders by being cordless. The blender has a detachable leg, which is dishwasher-safe and made from stainless steel. This is less corrosive and more resistant to rusting than other materials. It also contains antibacterial properties that keep it hygienic. The stainless steel, four-tip blade is positioned inside the head for safety. By keeping it neatly out of the way, this also acts as an anti-splash guard to help reduce mess.

The main body of the blender has a complementary stylish and durable chrome and black finish and contains the professional-standard 800 watt (W) motor. The handle's ergonomic design delivers a solid and comfortable grip.

Recessed buttons prevent the motor from starting if it's accidentally knocked over or dropped. These buttons are also soft-touch for prolonged use. In addition, the soft-touch easy-grip front and back panels help prevent wet hands from slipping while using the blender.

The set includes a 700 ml measuring beaker and a charging stand. A blade cap is provided for safe storage.

The only stick blender I've owned in the past was an Annabel Karmel baby food one and that was recalled from Boots, so since then I've been using my large Antony Worrall Thompson beaker blender or nothing at all. First and foremost this blender looks fantastic - the matt black and chrome finish really make it look expensive, which in reality it is considering its somewhat limited use. I initially used it for blending pancake batter and it worked very well indeed; yesterday I utilised it for blending onions, tomatoes and garlic to form part of a vegetable soup and I must admit that I wasn't hugely impressed. It seemed to take ages, was uncomfortable to hold and worst of all tried to disconnect itself from the lock position.

The positives of this product are that it looks nice and is meant to be displayed on the counter, the cordless function is great too for blending within a saucepan. Also unlike a traditional motor/jug blender there's no faff concerning getting it out of the cupboard, washing it etc.

The negatives of this product are that it doesn't feel powerful enough to whizz though winter vegetables and it's uncomfortable to use. For the price, which I find a little too expensive for my tastes, I would expect extra attachments such as a whisk - in fact I had to get out my trusty old Kenwood mixer to make a topping for my lemon merangue pie the other day.

In conclusion: I'm sure there are cheaper products which offer the same technical specifications.

I really wanted to like this blender, but try as I might I just felt a little disappointed with it. The build quality is excellent and the blade should be perfect for blitzing through the toughest of soups and smoothies. Where this falls down is its single speed motor. When blending thicker soups or tougher veggies, it really felt like hard work - something that shouldn't happen when you're using a blender. This is supposed to be a labour-saving device after all. The battery life is very reasonable and the cordless unit is also convenient to use. The handle is a little on the long side, but unless you have very small hands it won't be uncomfortable to operate. Unfortunately, unless you're going to use this for just milk shakes and baby food, it probably won't be the all singing, all dancing blender that it could be.

the blade unit is very poor quality, being a mixture of plastic and steal. whatever you blend leaks into the inner workings of the blade unit, and there is no way to clean the inside. therefore, it all goes mouldy/slimy inside the blade unit, and this slimy mouldy stuff will leak out into whatever your bending next time!

Before throwing the blender away, I broke the blade unit to check what was inside , sure enough, loads of slimy mouldy stuff, ready to leak out into whatever i blended next! Avoid this product like the plague!

I haven't had a hand blender before and I was very curious to try one and see what they are like to use.

The Breville VHB063 hand blender is very neat and solidly made. It has a useful power stand that holds the two halves, a lid for the blender head so it doesn't get dusty and a container for making smoothies in. I have found the blender head easy to clean. My only (and this could be me) gripe is that the power grip has two buttons one marked as a power button and one with an open padlock. I keep assuming the open padlock needs to be pressed to unlock the two halves, but that's not the case, you need to press both buttons for the blender to work. Sigh. Other than that would happily recommend this blender to other people.

The first thing to say here is that the product description is incorrect when it refers to the blender coming with a trio of attachments including a beaker, balloon whisk and chopping bowl. The actual contents are as listed in the "Box contains" list: there is only a beaker. This seems to me to be a somewhat meagre level of equipment given that Breville do include the extras in the cheaper corded models. I am also mystified by the reference in the product description to 12 speeds - if there is a speed adjustment it is well hidden, as there are only unlock and 'power on' buttons, and nothing is mentioned in the instruction booklet!

The blender is pretty sturdily made and sits on a charging base. Mine arrived half-charged and was fully re-charged within half an hour of plugging it in. The booklet states that a full charge will take two hours. Usage time on a full charge is given as 20minutes. I don't know how accurate this is as I haven't yet tried to use it continuously for 20 minutes. In fact I doubt I would bother if it took that long to do something - I have a Magimix for the longer/heavier jobs. As with most, if not all, of these hand blenders, you are instructed to use them for no more than a minute and then stop for another minute. This is an irritation if you are used to using something like a Magimix or an ordinary blender to blend soup. That said, the advantage of these things is that you can blend in the pan so, although it takes longer to achieve the same result, there is a compensation in terms of convenience. The only thing is that I would be very careful if I were using this machine in a non-stick pan. The absence of a cable, combined with a powerful motor, is a boon - convenient and practical.
