Product Description

Product Description

It was back in the early 1970s that Breville first introduced the humble sandwich toaster and over the past decades it has gone onto become a snacking sensation. It quickly captured the imagination of food lovers and has remained a firm favourite with generations ever since. A delicious toasted sandwich can be prepared and enjoyed in just minutes and from any handy ingredients. It's quick, easy and offers endless options--from sweet to savoury--for those eating a light lunch or a quick snack. Toasties can deliver healthy, homemade food and are great for those on a tight budget or without the time to spend hours slaving over a hot stove. And thanks to Breville's commitment to innovation, the Breville sandwich toaster remains a kitchen staple packed with useful and easy-to-use features.

And continuing in Breville's long-line of innovative sandwich toasters is the TR. This two slice sandwich toaster boasts Breville's famous Cut and Seal technology--a clever scissor action that automatically shapes the bread and filling into tidy and compact toasted sandwiches. It also allows for different sizes of bread, so it doesn't matter if you use a small loaf or a larger one--they all come out nicely moulded for you to hold and eat. It makes two sandwiches at a time to help feed hungry appetites quickly and without fuss.

Using the TR52 is simple thanks to the power-on and ready-to-cook indicator lights and cleaning up afterwards is made all the easier with the TR52's removable, dishwasher safe, non-stick plates and external hinged lid. When not in use, the sandwich toaster can be conveniently stored away, standing upright to save space or alternatively leave it on your kitchen worktop, the silver finish making it a stylish addition to your kitchen. The TR52 is also fitted with a cool-touch handle, non-slip feet and cord storage.

4.0 out of 5 stars why didn't you just get a replacement?! 28 Feb 2010
    By Julie
After reading the comments on here, I am surpried at how many people chose to give this item a poor review when they obviously got faulty products! mine makes perfectly golden brown toasties in 4 minutes, granted the plates are a bit big and too shallow but in compensation you get plates that can be dunked in the sink (don't dishwash these kind of things as the non-stick came off, i had to get replacement plates for my tabletop grill) rather than having to be scraped. and with a little practise anything is possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars It does the job well 6 Aug 2009
    By Rolo TOP 500 REVIEWER
I think, as someone else has suggested, there must have been a dodgy batch of these machines with faulty thermostats. Mine works fine - does a toastie in about 5 minutes, and the removable plates are a huge advantage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect 21 Aug 2010
Bought the easy clean version of this one from Comet.
The first one we had suffered a broken hinge after about 2 weeks but the replacement (under manufacturers warranty) has been going well for nearly a year. No problem with heating, it cooks 2 sandwiches in 4 minutes if you get it up to temperature first but does tend to spill cheese/baked bean juice or similar during cooking.
We found using grated cheese helps to keep down over-filling and therefore leakage, as does using a large square type of bread (often marked as toast or toastie in the shops) especially if you use THICK and not medium thickness.
The coating is starting to come off of the diagonal middle ridge of the plates now but we have been putting them in the dishwasher and the kids use metal knives to lift the toasted sandwiches out, so follow the comments on another review and wash by hand - and use a hard plastic or wooden tool for lifting.
I'd certainly keep an eye out for any new model to see if the minor problems with this one get straightened out but overall it's pretty good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Results 28 Jan 2009
    By Jim
Recently bought the Breville TR52 and after six attempts have not produced any good toasties. Although a decently made toaster and very easy to clean. The problem is, that the pockets for the filling are too small and the surrounding rim is too wide. This results in a toastie that has too much edge crust with not enough filling.
Have had to resurrect my old toaster that this one was meant to replace. Don't buy this model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Soggy toasties! 22 April 2008
For the first few months of using my sandwich toaster it was fine but all I can get now is a soggy mess - I end up having to put them under the grill (If I can manage to rescue them without breaking up)
All in all a waste of money.

    5.0 out of 5 stars best Breville ever ! 1 Feb 2011
What a great Breville. For the lovers of toasted sandwiches the hassle of cleaning the machine was always the pain. Now you can have that perfect cheese & onion heaven and easily remove the plates for cleaning. Well worth the purchase - I'd forgotten just how good they were ! Best price available on the internet when I was searching.

1.0 out of 5 stars NO Cheese 25 Jan 2009
Absolutely useless, bought this machine to replace an old Breville, should have kept the old one. The machine doesen't open enough at the rear, and so pushes the top slice forwards on closing even with medium bread. This causes the filling to spew out of the back and into the machine through the cable entry spring. Also the outer sections of the sandwich are still uncooked after 20 minutes as the small heater elements only gets the middle of the toaster hot enough to toast, so you need to turn the sandwich at half time to do the other corners. After 25 mins you have an onion sandwich with all your cheese on the counter or inside the machine. Save your money for something that does the job properly!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Toasted sandwich? Soggy bread! 18 Jun 2008
I have recently bought this machine and thought I was doing something wrong until I read the other reviews on here. The instructions say that it should take 4 mins to cook. I leave mine in for approx 20 mins because all I get is a soggy mess. Even after 20 mins it is pale and soggy but after leaving it sat on the side for a few mins it goes a little crispier. A total waste of money!

The toaster does not toast evenly. On the third use the plastic cracked and the toaster was unsafe to use as you could see the element! Disappointing quality. Do not buy this!
