    Don't buy one.

    As another reviewer said, it's a dangerous design as the lugs of the (hot) removal plates protrude by about half an inch. Also, the whole of the casing get much hotter than other sandwich toasters I've used, which again is dangerous.

    Even if you ignore the safety implications, it doesn't perform very well. The machine doesn't clamp the bread tight enough, so the 2 halves don't seal together properly - when you open it up, the sandwich falls apart! The removable plates don't contain all the leaks etc, so you still end up with hard-to-clean greasy bits.

    All in all, a very poor machine, Mine's going back to the shop.

    I recently purchased the Breville TR46 Easy Clean Sandwich Toaster to replace another (Breville) machine that had provided me with faithful service over a number of years but was beginning to show the test of time. I have to say I was extremely disappointed with the TR46.

    On the pro side it is extremely straightforward to clean and the sandwich plates remove easily for cleaning. If you've ever owned a sandwich maker before you'll know what a pain it can be to clean them.

    On the con side I found that it makes poor toasted sandwiches - I tried making toasted cheese and bacon sandwiches but found you can only put the bare minimum of filling on the bread if you expect to be able to close the lid and seal your sandwiches.

    The overall quality of manufacture is tinny - the lid rattles - and it makes you think that the machine would not stand up to too much regular use.

    Finally, the sandwich plates have lugs on the corners nearest to the hinge to enable you to remove the plates for cleaning. These lugs protrude beyond the edge of the sandwich maker plates.You would do well to remember that these heat up when the machine is on. You need to make sure that the flex of the machine is nowhere
    near the lugs or that you do not inadvertently touch them when the machine is on. I don't think this is a particulalry sensible design.

    All in all a very disappointing machine.I think I'll stick with my old machine.

    I bought this sandwich toaster as it's predecessor ended up in the bin, as it was such a mess to clean, usually the springy hinges get caked up with filling bits no matter how thorough you try to clean them, and the plates get stuck, and look never really clean, who ever designed/invented sandwich toasters hadn't heard of the little bags you can buy from Lakeland and other cooking shops, these you pop into your toaster along with your sandwich inside and there you have a nice toasted sandwich with no mess or cleaning of sandwich toasters, there are plenty of other activites to fill your time rather than cleaning a kitchen appliance.

    Back to this sandwich toaster though, I thought it cooked quite well, had cheese and onion sandwiches, liked the idea that you can do it for two people instead of just one, no more waiting around for another to do for second person.

    The toaster doesn't seem to like brown bread for some reason (my old one did) and there was me trying to be good health minded!

    I liked the idea that the plates are dishwasher proof, as they do clean up properly thankfully, the only thing is that the springy hinge part can still get a bit on it. (Lakeland Toaster bags maybe beckoning me in the near future).

    On the whole not bad, have used worse and paid even more money, but for £9.99 at Curry's not all lost, useful for every now and again use, afterall you wouldn't want toasted sandwiches everyday anyway would you?

    I'm rating it as a four because I would loved to have been able to make brown toasted sandwiches.
