Product Description

Product Description

Ironing is less of a chore with the Breville VIN258 TECHnique steam iron. With a top-of-the-range 2750 watts, it produces more steam and has a reduced heat-up time compared to lesser watt models, helping you plough through your pile of laundry very quickly and efficiently. The job is made even easier thanks to the VIN258's titanium soleplate, which provides an incredibly smooth glide through the creased and crumpled clothes, so there's no need to work up a sweat when tackling the chore.

The durable titanium soleplate distributes heat evenly, keeping it at the temperature selected and even throughout with no unwanted hot spots that could damage your clothes. With no snagging, it creates an easy and effortless glide during ironing and ensures long-life, protecting the soleplate against scratching and surface damage. The ceramic soleplate is given a brilliant boost by the Cerasol coating. This special finish is tough and hard-wearing, maintaining the initial smoothness of the soleplate for longer so that your iron maintains performance. A fundamental principle of ironing is the more steam, the better. The higher the steam ratings of the iron, the better it will be to use. An iron's steam ratings determine how easy it will be to use, how effective and efficient it is and therefore how much time you can save to do other, more exciting things with your time.

The VIN258 has an impressive 50 grams of constant steam, also known as steam per minute, which is the amount of steam generated by the iron when in normal use. In addition to this, there is also a shot of steam, specifically a super-powerful 110g for the VIN258. This works as an extra boost to help remove those stubborn creases that refuse to budge or give that added crispness when creating creases on trousers. Completing the trio of essential steam features is the vertical steam function. This allows the iron to be used vertically to steam hanging clothes such as dresses or suits or household fabrics such as curtains, so however difficult, delicate or unwieldy the item, it can be thoroughly and properly ironed with ease.

The Breville VIN258 boasts other handy design features to help you breeze through the work.

These include:
Anti-scale. This function helps prevent the build-up of limescale in both the iron and on the soleplate to keep it performing at its best for as long as possible.
Anti-drip. Iron at low temperatures without any unwanted drips from the soleplate that can cause ugly, nuisance marks on your clothing and affect performance.
Self-clean. A cycle that flushes out impurities from the water via the holes in the soleplate.
Safety auto shut-off. The iron automatically switches off after a period of inactivity, typically about 10 minutes in an upright position or 30 seconds when horizontal, to provide peace of mind.

The iron features a large 400 millilitre water tank so you can store a considerable amount of water without having to constantly worry about re-filling it. When empty, the tank emits a beep or alarm thanks to the dry tank alert so you never need run dry. The advanced digital display and controls improve the accuracy and ease of selecting and viewing your chosen temperature and further control is offered by the choice of seven temperature settings. These cater for all different types of fabric, so you can afford to be fussy in how you iron your clothes. The iron is fitted with an extensive three metre cord, making it easy to move and handle when in use. Both the tank and the handle illuminate for striking effect and adding to the attractive look of the iron is its striking aqua and black design.

I ordered this iron initially as a compromise. I had previously tried a steam generator type iron and was impressed at the effectiveness and speed but could not justify the outlay for the amount of ironing we do as a family. The Breville came up on a deal and the reviews seemed very positive, as did the specification so I went for it. The first thing you notice when taking the iron out of the box is the cable, which is nice and long plus also a thick and good quality material - because it has been folded up in the box I'd advise straightening it out properly or it will have kinks in it for a while. The water resevoir is big too, which is a plus as you don't have to keep refilling it every 2 minutes. Instead of the rotating 'click wheel' type temperature selection I am used to, you use digital up/down buttons to select the temerature setting up or down and the setting is nice and visible on a blue LCD type screen.

The iron itself is quite heavy, but it feels nice to hold and runs smoothly over clothes. It heats up very quickly and gives an audible beep when it is at the correct temperature to let you know it is ready. Another thing I have noticed is that if you leave the iron 'inactive' for a few minutes (haven't timed it) then it will beep 3 times every minute or so (again, didn't time it) to alert you to the fact you have left it switched-on. The beep is loud enough to hear from another room so it seems to be a good safety feature as my other half is always worrying about leaving things switched on!

The sole plate itself is a very shiny black finish. After a few days of using the iron it is still (very) shiny - it looks so shiny though I can't see it staying that way forever.

This Iron has a nice long lead 3mtr, easy to fill, warms up very fast, not too heavy, a very easy Iron to use, glides over clothes beautifully, it makes Ironing easier, it buzzes when Iron is up to heat, easy to read temperature, 100% improvement on my old Phillips Azure which was leaking after 18months. I would recommend this Iron to anyone.

Bought this on the Lightening Deals offer at £29.99. For that price I think that the iron is fine, but I really don't think it justifies a higher price.

    Plus points:
It irons reasonably well and gets to temperature very quickly giving a beep.

    Downside:
It's heavy and slightly awkward to use, meaning that I can't always get a great result.
I find the digital temperature dial a complete waste of time. I normally use the cotton setting to iron with and with a normal iron you just leave it on this setting for next time. With this dial every time you turn the iron on you have to set the temperature. Seems trivial but actually really annoying!
If you are right handed then the + temperature button is on the wrong side so you have to lean over the handle to reach it.
It's difficult to see how much water you have in the iron.
I often have to set the iron to a higher temperature to get the creases out.

All in all it does the job, but I probably wouldn't buy it again even at the price I paid for it.

Bought this as a Christmas present and was massively impressed on first usage with all the gizmos and the light up screen.

Very easy to use straight out of the box, still haven't used some features like the steam jet as no real opportunity thus far, but for general ironing purposes it does the job brilliantly and glides over your clothes like a dream.

What you will first notice is the weight of it, very sturdy, although I don't believe it works solely by flattening your shirt to the ironing board so don't be put off by that. The 2nd thing you'll try and figure out is the screen, but don't worry there's a button either side which adjusts the iron temperature and hey presto your good to go!

While its not re-inventing the wheel and won't transform your iron process, it is very good for what it does and I have already heartily recommended it to friends and family.

We go through irons quicker than most people go through cheap shoes, either they break or they just don't iron very well. This iron has been a revelation, it irons better than any iron we have ever had, the steam is consistent and it is easy to set the right temperature. I would say that it is a little on the heavy side but this obviously contributes to the quality of the ironing so not a problem.

This iron is brilliant, it has a good sized water tank meaning I didn't have to keep filling it up,and a handy little jug to fill it with. It has a good length cable and the self clean feature is easy to use. It is heavier than I am used to however this extra weight really seemed to help get creases out better and you dont notice its heavier when actually ironing as it glides so well over clothes.
The digital display and water fill level can be difficult to see if not in good light and I did find it dribbled a bit on steam setting but found that as long as I kept it moving quickly it was fine.
The vertical steam option is also a useful feature and was easy to do.
Its a nice looking iron that really speeded up a job I don't like and I would not go back to my old one again.
