The Breville VKJ135 Café series stainless steel jug kettle combines modern design with high performance. It is high wattage--3 kilowatt (kW)--keeping the boiling time short to save you time and has a concealed element. This makes it easier to clean and more energy efficient than an immersed element, requiring a lower minimum water level in order to function safely. It has a capacity of 1.5 litres (l) and so can accommodate about five to seven cups--ideal for families. The VKJ135 is designed with a water gauge indicating water level to help you fill the kettle to the desired amount. The switch and lid illuminate blue on boiling giving your kettle a sophisticated style. The kettle is fitted with a non-slip, 360° rotational base for left and right-handed usage and cord storage to keep your kitchen worktop fuss-free.

The model that this model replaced was fabulous, perfect until it died one year from purchase with no known cause. This model is fine...less sleek, less all around. The lever to push to get the water boiling is clumsy wheras the old model was a very modern on/off button. The lid on the new model also doesn't stay closed - a problem with the hinge - so will often pop up mid-boil. All annoying but livable and probably unnoticeable if you didn't own the cooler original version. It works. I'm drinking my tea. Not particularly quick but it works.

This kettle looks good and is comfortable to handle, unfortuneatly the lid pops open when on max fill just before boiling point is reached. It is therefore a danger to use. The lid shuts using plastic lugs, a design which seems common to many new kettles. I will be careful not to choose any other with this lid type.

I ordred this kettle (and toaster) after using it in a rented cottage on holiday. Unfortunately it wasn't qute the same model (doesn't have the satisfying "ping" I particularly liked!) but it's a good solid design which doesn't rattle around on the base like my old one did, I love the blue colour when it's on, and you can see when the water is boiling and stop it manually if you want to save a bit of leccy... It also boils really quickly!

Very poor build quality. The lid constantly pops up and therefore does not switch off, but worst of all, it leaks from the clear plastic water fill scale located directly above... Read more
