Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Tap water in the UK is perfectly safe. However, it doesn't always taste, look or smell as pleasant as we'd like, and the effect can be noticeable not only in drinking water but in hot drinks and food cooked in water.

BRITA water filter products use a mixture of carbon and ion exchange resin to remove hardness, chlorine, heavy metals such as lead and copper, and other organic impurities to improve the taste, smell and appearance of cold and hot drinks.

The Breville Aluminium Brita Spectra Filter Kettle uses the BRITA Maxtra cartridges for 20% better limescale reduction. With a 1.25 litres capacity and 360 degree non-slip base, Breville Brita Filter Kettles also feature 'Memo': the electronic cartridge exchange indicator to remind users when to change the cartridge.

This kettle features a red illumination when boiling, and Breville's unique changing Spectra illumination when on standby, as well as the unique keep-warm feature keeping water hot and ready for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars No scum here! 27 Sep 2008

This kettle would look good in any kitchen. I like the way the internal lighting changes colour too! The kettle boils in no time at all leaving no scum or film! Although expensive, it is well worth the extra in every way. A wonderful item indeed

3.0 out of 5 stars The Jury is still out 29 Dec 2008

Had it now for 3 days. It looks good and does everything it's supposed to, except......

The first time it was used, it didn't switch off when the water boiled, this has happened several times now, and with different people. Will give it a week or two to see if the fault (stiffness/newness?) wears off and then will contact Breville, although I'm sure I've read a review somewhere on Amazon that wasn't full of their praises.

3 weeks on the kettle is working perfectly (although looking at other models some reviewers have had the same fault permanently).

Would definitely buy another, especially when I've seen it on here several times for 35 inclusive. Must be a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Funky Kettle 24 Nov 2008

Everyone comments on this kettle when they come round. It looks great and does what it's supposed to. I'm not sure how environmentally friendly it is with its lights (but I switch it off at the plug when not in use) and it's difficult to tell exactly how many "cups" you are putting in as the water has to go through the filter area before you get to see it in the kettle - but you soon learn! Water is filtered perfect and living in London it clears the scum off your tea nicely. It is quite heavy based on other kettles we've had.

5.0 out of 5 stars JK164 filter kettle 13 July 2008
I had read some reviews saying that you can't taste the difference and the lid is stiff and is slow to boil. All I can say is I live in a very hard water area in the south of the uk and my coffee wasn't scummy, I didn't have those rings around my mug when you leave a bit of coffee in it, and best of all my teeth didn't have that film over them. Ok I've only just got it, but I'm very impressed, it also only took about a minute to boil instead of the usual 3 or more. The lid is a release button, which may wear, but I got the extra insurance for a tenner for 3 years which replaces it anyway if it breaks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent Kettle 4 Oct 2008
Brita Maxtra 9 Pack Water Filter Cartridges (+3 Free)
This Kettle is well worth Purchasing, a little bit more expencive than ordenry Kettles, but is worth it your hot drinks tast much better and the lights on the kettle look well cool, and a keep warm button enables you to make hot drinks without having to reboil the keetle and wiil keep the water hot for several hours. I have had no problems at all with this and am very pleased with it. The only problem is the Britta cartidges you need fot the kettle can work out a little expencive, concidering you have to change it every 4 weeks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good kettle that does not last long 25 Jan 2009

Our previous two kettles have been Breville Britas and have just decided to buy our third. The catches on the lid are held by plastic rims which wear out quickly. However we live in SE England and the benefit of the filter outweighs the flaw.

4.0 out of 5 stars clean water, nice coffee 26 May 2009
Had the kettle for one year now. Still boils, still glows, lid is still slowish to open, still makes fantastic tea/coffee, still looks spotlessly clean.

The cleanliness is part due to the fact that the little indicator on the top that tells you when to change the filter encourages you to a; change the filter and b; clean the kettle. Therefore 15mins later and after a scrub with some lemon juice, the kettle has absolutely no limescale inside it to date.

Surely that can benefit the taste and the environment as well, as the kettle doesn't have to work any harder to boil.

A good choice of kettle, and if you find 12 filters (for the price of 9) the whole year is taken care of.

Re-review June 2010
2 years on now, still 4 stars. Glowing facility is failing as some of the LEDs have blown, however the kettle still makes fantastic hot drinks, and the element is still spotlessly clean following a 10-15 mins monthly clean and filter change.

Job done.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lid stiff, and takes ages to switch off 4 May 2009
We live in a really hard water area, and it does make a decent cup of tea! However within about 2 weeks the lid refused to open, but we've worked out how to jiggle it open with a bit of a sideways squeeze. It also seems to takes ages to switch off once boiled, and I sometimes find myself switching it off manually.
