Unfortunately shelling out for a more expensive kettle delivers nothing extra in terms of function or reliability with this kettle. I also have a model with a lid that pops up mid boil or during pouring such that you get a nice blast of scalding steam on your hand when you least expect it. I barely got 6 months use out of it before it started doing this.

I was given one of these by Brita after my previous Brita kettle developed an electrical fault after about 18 months.
The kettle looks great, but unfortunately it's as badly designed as the one it replaced:
    1. When filled to just below maximum, the kettle slops boiling water out of its spout.
    2. The lid locking mechanism, which was hard to use from day one, has now failed completely, so the lid won't close properly.
    3. The water filter indicator has failed, so one of this kettle's biggest selling points is now useless, and I'm left with an average kettle with a lid that doesn't close properly!

I have just got this kettle and really love it. I was worried about getting one as I heard that a lot of them took ages for the water to fill up and boil. However this doesnt- it fills up at a slightly slower than normal pace but still within minutes and not causing any problems.

Another great benefit of it is the push button lid , just adds that extra nice touch, it has a side panel telling you how many cups of water you will get and the stay warm function is a great idea .Of course the major benefit is filtered clean nicer water and you do taste the differance. The filter fits nicely inside ( nearly half way down ) and there is no problems there- I got 4 supplied with the kettle so this should do me for a while and prices for these things are dropping. Personally I feel the filter is worth it for nicer tasting and healthier water.

The only problem some people might not like is that you cant fill it with the spout but to me this is minor. It looks very stylish, which again was important to me as a lot of kettles look the same or are plastic looking ( you think there would a lot more stylish designs for such an everyday item ). On a very childish tone it lights up red when boiling and glows blue when finished or on stand by .This looks very nice at night and does encourage unenviromentally useless boiling just for the sake of watching it glow ! Actually the blue is very soothing and does remind you to unplug when not in use.

I have looked for a kettle for a while and ideally wanted a filter kettle, this was definately worth waiting for. Even if you are not fussed about getting a filter kettle it scores well as a stylish, userfriendly kettle and usefully nightglow !

I've had two of these and both have been faulty. The first one stopped boiling after a couple of months (lots of lovely lights, just no hot water) and the other worked OK once then the on/off switch failed and it wouldn't stay on. I wouldn't buy another and can't recommend them.

We've had the kettle for just a few months and it's broken - it won't boil water. The glowing lights are a rather pointless waste of electricity and the lid construction doesn't look robust to me. I won't be buying this brand again.

I've had this kettle for a couple of months. Firstly I was very impressed at the speed at which the water filtered through (this had been a real frustration with a previous filter kettle) and of course the pretty lights. However it now frequently fails to boil leaving luke warm water or an aching finger as I have to keep the switch pressed down! A real shame - more of a shame is the aggressive attitude of Breville on trying to replace / return the kettle.

Four starts not five, because after nine months of ownership it stopped working and three days later started working again.
apart from that, no problems at all.

    Fills and boils quickly.

and when cold, is a 'jug' of filtered water.

On account of it not producing limescale, the kettle is prolonging its own life, and also the life of my espresso machine, since I refill its resevoir with water from the kettle.

To avoid the 'won't turn on again' syndrome, make sure NOT to switch on when empty. There is a very diligent cut-out. I did trick me into believing that teh kettle was broken.

One warning ... but I will not reduce the rating I applied. When full, it is slightly more difficult to hold than th eaverage kettle ... this is because it is oversized ... in order to have full cpacity and teh top half for filtering. This meand that teh diameter of the kettle is extending further from your handle-hand and you will feel the leverage as you try to keep it from dipping and pouring of its own accord.
It's OK for wrists of normal strength, but if you ahve weak wrists or ar in the high point of a fever, then be careful.

For myself, I am glad I have it, and at such a point as it decides eventually to give up the ghost, I will get another of the same model or as close as possible to it.

I would not go back to non-filter kettles, and would certanily never have simply gone for ordinary clold-filter jugs .... that for me would ahve just been too much clutter.
