Product Description

Cupcakes have become a food phenomenon. These delicious sugary treats featured in small screen hit show Sex and the City and with the thumbs up from New York trend-setter Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) their popularity has scaled new heights. And the secret to their success? More like an easy-to-follow recipe.

The Cupcake Baker delivers eight golden cupcakes
Golden, perfectly-formed cupcakes--ready in under eight minutes

Cupcakes are incredibly versatile, perfect for every occasion be it as formal as a wedding or as casual as an afternoon snack; for every season from the chilliest winter to the steamiest summer and for foodies of any age, young or old. They also make a thoughtful and unusual gift for that person who has everything.

There are so many ways to customise how you like a cupcake. Enduring favourite recipes include vanilla, chocolate and coffee, while more adventurous options include carrot cake, cola and key lime. And once the mixture is baked you can experiment with the toppings. Whip up some soft and creamy frosting or lather on some icing, but then what to put on top? Chocolate chunk, nut or slice of fruit? With cupcakes, the options are endless.

The Cupcake Baker's secure lock
Secure lock and easy to open handles

Delicious Cupcakes for Every Occasion

And now making cupcakes has become even easier thanks to the Breville Cupcake Creations VTP100 Cupcake Baker. Forget time spent waiting for your oven to pre-heat, all the fuss and bother of getting sticky baking trays in and out of the oven and then the wait as they bake. Step away from the oven as the Cupcake Baker helps you cook delicious cupcakes in less than eight minutes with just one piece of equipment that is easy to clean and easy to store.

The Cupcake Baker cooks eight individual cupcakes at a time each with a separate recess enabling you to make eight cupcakes from eight different mixtures all at once. It works quicker than an oven to produce spongy and lightly browned cupcakes.

And you can choose how simple or complicated you want your cupcake baking to be. Keep it simple by using store bought cake mixture or alternatively spend time making it from scratch and decorating the cupcakes elaborately. The Cupcake Baker is a fun and exciting way to bring baking into your kitchen providing children under adult supervision with an easy introduction to cooking.

Ready in Just 10 Minutes

The unit consists of two non-stick plates with eight recesses in the lower one specially designed to produce attractive, perfectly-formed cupcakes. Simply plug in the Cupcake Baker and both the red and green light will illuminate. Once the appropriate cooking temperature is reached the green light will automatically turn off.

This is your cue to add the paper cake cases to each recess and then spoon or pipe the cake mixture into them. A latch locks the lid into place so the temperature remains constant and the handles make it easy to open, close and transport. Once they have been cooked with the lid closed for approximately six to eight minutes, the cupcakes will be ready to be lifted out, served and enjoyed. If you want something smaller, downsize it to make bite-size fairy cakes by simply inserting smaller cake cases.

Easy to Use and Easy to Clean

Once the cupcakes have been eaten, the Cupcake Baker continues to keep your kitchen chores to a minimum. The non-stick plates are easy to wipe clean so there are no sticky baking trays to scrub and the lid is hinged for greater access helping with the post-cupcake clean-up. Storage isn't a concern as the unit closes flat so that it's compact, while also standing upright to keep it secure whether put away horizontally or vertically.

The Cupcake Baker comes with an attractive gift box and a comprehensive guide offering a number of sweet suggestions to get you baking. The booklet includes recipes for a variety of cake flavours, as well as icing recipes, techniques and handy hints on decorating your cupcakes to help them look as good as they taste. These suggestions provide a great starting place to get using the Cupcake Baker, ideal for starter chefs that are new to cupcake baking.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Half-baked? 26 Oct 2010
    By Supertzar TOP 1000 REVIEWER
    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
It seems a great idea - cup cakes are a bit of a faff to make - who wouldn't want a dedicated device to save time or effort?

Unfortunately, this isn't that device. The faff with cup cakes is more on the preparation side - cooking them being the least painful aspect. If you follow the (simple enough) recipes here, you'll be making 24 cup cakes - which will takes around 24 minutes - longer than a conventional oven. By the time you've done the third batch, you may find, as I did, that your icing sugar has hardened. And cooking three batches is a lot more faff than just popping 24 in an oven in any case.

On the plus side, the cup cakes it makes are actually very tasty - if a bit chewy on the outside. Being tightly packed into the device, the mixture takes in less air, which I think makes for a more satisfying, chewier - if compact - result. The unit seems to have hot spots however with some cakes having dark brown edges while others look undercooked.

I can't fault Breville for trying to find a new use for their sandwich maker technology. However, since this solves none of the problems that might trigger a purchase, I'd probably give it a miss.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better to use an Oven 24 Oct 2010
By Ms. E. Blankson VINE™ VOICE
    The Positives

It's a nice colour, if you like pink
It's non stick, which means it's easy to clean
It doesn't take too long to heat up
The recipe book is simple and straight forward, any fool could follow it
And it's quick; the average time to cook cupcakes in the oven is approximately 20 - 25mins and this machine cooks them in around half the time

    The Negatives

It's big, and if you're like me and don't make cupcakes regularly, it will just sit there for long periods, burning space in the cupboard or on the kitchen surface.
It only cooks eight cupcakes at a time and when you want to make twenty four at once, I would prefer at least half of them to be ready at one time.
The cupcakes don't cook at the same time. I found the ones on the back half cooked perfectly within 8mins and the others needed a further 4 - 8mins before they were ready

    Potential Improvements

They could make it so it cooks more than 8 at once, which yes may make it slightly bigger but at the same time it would make the machine slightly more worth having.
They could make sure that all of the cupcake sections cook at the same time, so they are done at the same time
They could introduce a timer on it. Since it claims them all to be done within 6 - 8mins, a timer on it to beep when the 6 to 8mins is done would be perfect, otherwise if you are not careful, you will burn them in the machine.
Lastly, although I know it is solely a cupcake machine but if you could potentially use it to cook something else, it would make having it that more attractive

    Conclusion
It's a cute product but when all is said and done you could do the same thing, for free in your oven.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cup Cake Heaven 20 Feb 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase
My daughter and I love this product. We have made dozens of cupcakes and mostly really good standard, when we time the cooking well.
We found the recipe included made light, fluffy cakes and was adaptable to add other flavours. It takes a very small amount of mixture too.
It does not cut down on preparation time and effort, nor on washing-up, but it is fun to use and very quick to heat up and cool down compared to a domestic oven. It also takes up much less energy and is portable, so charity 'bakes' are a possibility. We are planning to do a charity sale, with people making their own choices about ingredients and adding their own toppings afterwards.
The one addition we'd definitely make would be a timer with 'bell' to alert you to when the 8 mins is up.
Also not sure why the cup folders have to be so small. They are a standard size, but the 'usual' ones are larger - I'm sure it would be possible to use smaller than the hole sizes, but larger one just end up folded to fit them in, which spoils the overall look.
Nevertheless, we rate this product and would recommend it for cupcake addicts like us.

Extremely simple to use though the prep time is the same. Pretty little cupcakes but they do need some icing to finish them off as otherwise a bit pale-looking.
